Charlotte Soubrié and Marianne Vandaele are the new trendy pair for the start of the year. If Marianne is already used to the national events of padelCharlotte is much less and for good reason: She is a brand new player on the ladies circuit. This association has ambition and wishes to prove that it could well create a surprise for the European Championships of padel 2019.

  • Charlotte, we will start with you, the youngest of the pair on the map padel. How did you get started in padel ?

Charlotte - The first time I played padel, it was in Toulouse, last year during a stage of the My Padel Tower. Alexis Salles, the founder of the MPT, contacted a friend, Stéphanie Bimes-Arbus. A ladies' pair was missing to complete the tournament. And so it was on this occasion that I finally hit the ball for the first time padel, during a tournament… Rather atypical, no? (to laugh)

Marianne: Me, it's a little more classic. First because I tried the padel during tennis training. We had the right to an Initiation padel for the whole promo. For some time now, the FFT has been offering introductory weekends padel during BE module. It's perfect for discovering this sport. At the time, the day of padel for DE TENNIS was organized by Bastien Blanqué. And there, we can say that things started for me.

  • Marianne, before talking about the future, can we go back, coldly, to the period of the selections for the World Cup? padel in Paraguay in 2018?

Marianne - Of course I was disappointed that the coach does not appeal to me. With Lea we were a pair. And two, we have achieved great benefits. Patrick Fouquet had to make choices and we have to accept them, even if we are obviously disappointed when we see that we stay at the doors of the French team and that the last level has not been crossed.

After, I'm obviously very happy for Lea. She is a very good player on the right.

My ambitions in 2019 remain the same as in 2018, trying to tip the scales in my favor. The French championships of padel ladies will be paramount.

  • You are a young pair. In view of the competition, do you think you can make the difference on the finish?

Marianne - We are in the process of creating and strengthening our team. We still discover each other, even if the reflexes arrive little by little.

Charlotte - Currently, we still lack experience in tournaments, clashes.

Marianne - Last year, we were rather an expected pair with Leah. This year, things are a bit different. We are not expected, it may be a good thing.

Charlotte - Why not create surprise. We work. During the course of the team of France, it was also very interesting to hear the advice of the captain.

  • This season, are you playing together until the French championships?

Charlotte - Absolutely. I really want to get involved in this sport. And I think we can do something. Now, I know that there are players, old, who have been playing for a long time. But we have assets with Marianne.

Marianne - We will play all season together. The same for the French championships of padel 2019. And indeed, we have a game that can destabilize and surprise. This is one of our strengths. But we need to be able to balance our game much more to be more effective in matches.

Charlotte - It's a good season for us, as we have just won the P1000 in Aix. This is very important for a possible selection in the France team. Especially since there were very good pairs.

Géraldine Sorel and Elodie Invernon, Audrey Casanova and Carol Ann Lovera, Marie Maligot / Elodie de Kermadec, Emmelien Lambregt /

A very hung tournament with consistent levels. This type of event is very important for the rest of the season.

  • During the internship of the France team, Patrick Fouquet, the captain, made you change sides. It's rare to report it. What do you think ?

Marianne - I've always played on the left, so it's hard to break the habit. After several tries, we realized that Charlotte was more successful on the left. So we are testing for now with this change of side.

Charlotte - Marianne tried to play right, even if the reflexes are not the same, we agree with Patrick's reasoning. This is definitely the best option in the long run
