Don't worry, there is no spelling mistake or use of old French in the title of this article. If in the 1700s, the word "king" was written "roy", a "Roy" of 2023 designates something quite different.

A "Roy" is now the equivalent of a company share on the stock market in the world of start-ups Royaltiz. This company created in 2021 aims to list people and not companies.

“Buy is the new like”

Clearly, if you believe in the talent of a person and in his economic success, you can buy a "piece" of this person in the form of a "Roy" and thus increase his value... The slogan of the company Royaltiz is to elsewhere clear: "Buy is the new like", that is to say "buying is the new way of loving".

But let's come to Cyril Hanouna : the television host is the new recruit of Royaltiz, one of the 160 personalities on which we can now bet our money. So if you think "Baba" will prosper economically and/or become one of the stars of the padel world, you can buy shares in its name. They will allow you to receive monthly dividends if its rating improves; you can also resell your Roys by making a profit. But if the price of Roy Hanouna drops, you will lose money...

Hanouna is the only player of padel side

" What I like, explains Hanouna in a video, it's that we can bet on talents and that's what makes me laugh. We focus on talents rather than companies. It's a Talent Exchange. Personally, companies, I do not understand anything, on the other hand talents, there I understand. »

Currently, Cyril Hanouna is the only "player" of padel listed on Royaltiz. On the other hand, there are many professional sportsmen, in particular footballers, boxers, tennis players, rugby players... At the end of April, for example, you can buy for 2 € Roys by Daniil Medvedev, former world No. 1 in tennis and winner of the US Open 2021.

You can also find artists and influencers on the platform, who you can like in Royaltiz fashion, in other words buy.

Asked about BFM Business, Christophe Vattier, CEO of Royaltiz, thus justifies the slogan Buy is the new like: “What better way to tell someone you love them than to invest in them? Isn't that the ultimate way to show someone that you believe in them? »

Human become commodity

The fact of now being able to bet money on people, and in particular on professional sportsmen, is unprecedented. Of course, you could already bet on the performance of these athletes and earn money if you were aiming correctly. The novelty is that the Royaltiz algorithm does not only take into account sports performance, but also the image of the person, his number of followers on social networks, his engagement rates, etc.

Like others, Cyril Hanouna was already a brand, it is now becoming a commodity that can be bought and resold. Symptomatically, the company behind Royaltiz is called “Mankind stock-exchange”: the Humanity Stock Exchange. “We want to rate everyone”, confirms its CEO Christophe Vattier.

After sport and show business, it's a safe bet – and to fear – that this commodification of the human will also affect romantic relationships. Do we really want a society where saying “I love you” to someone is simply an act of purchase?
