Tournament after tournament, the pair formed by Paquito Navarro and Juan Tello gains momentum. The Spaniard and the Argentinian proved that last night by winning the WPT Mexico Open, their first title together – and the second for Paquito this season after the one gleaned in Santander with Martin DiNenno.

But this success was not easy to obtain, as it took three sets against Franco Stupaczuk and Pablo Lima to lift the trophy. The first round ended in a tie-break clearly dominated by Navarro / Tello (7/2). But the latter would then undergo the law of the Argentinian and the Brazilian in the second (6/1), before returning to battle.

At 5-5 in the 3rd, everything was possible for the two teams, but it was Paquito and Juan who made the break and won this first tournament together (7/6 1/6 7/5), only the third that dispute their pair. They will certainly have benefited from the packages of Galan / Lebron and Belasteguin / Coello, as well as the premature defeat of Tapia and Sanyo. But the level of play they displayed in Mexico and the room for improvement which is theirs – with a Navarro who remains a novice on the right of the track – are promising for the rest of their association.
