Léa Godallier and Carolina Orsi achieve a great performance in this first round of the WPT Paraguay Open by winning their confrontation against Alix Collombon and Carla Mesa.

Despite the joy of passing this round, Léa, Alix's partner in France, wishes to point out that the latter had been sick for two days.

The 47th player in the world looks back on this very hooked match.

“We were on restraint”

“In the 1st set, despite the severe score, 6/0 in favor of Alix and Carla, the level of play was not so bad.

All the shots were played by half which allowed Alix and Carla to take the advantage quite quickly in the point.

The second set is balanced. We play more tactically. We settle our unforced errors. And we also take advantage of some adverse irregularities.

We play a little faster too. And we make the break at 4/3, to win this second set 6/3.”

The match becomes a war

“In the 3rd set, it's war. The points are very disputed, the exchanges are long. It's an increasingly physical game. We even realize the break at 5 everywhere. 6/5 service to follow. And even 30/0.

They manage to come back to 6 everywhere in the last set and even to take off by leading 2/0 in the ti-break.

But we hang on and we win this 3rd set. 7/6.

I have a thought for Alix, because I think she fought despite the fatigue. Kudos to her.

We will focus on the next game which will certainly be very complicated.

Except surprise, the Franco-Italian pair should play their next match against Lucía Sainz and Aranzazu Osoro, the recent semi-finalists in Chile.
