Christian Collange, Chairman of the committee padel for the PACA league FFT looks back on the development of padel in France and mainly on its league with figures, new circuits and other actions that will be launched in January 2019.

The Paca League is launching new things in the padel from January 2019. Can you tell us more?

Le padel is now booming in our league and in the territory. The padel entered the federal fold in 2015 and has since experienced a real boom in our league. At the end of the 2018 season, there are in PACA, 39 STRUCTURES with courts of PADEL and we count on our league 93 pitches, i.e. 25% of the number of pitches in France, also knowing that many projects exist throughout the league, and we will do everything to support these projects and the development of the disciplined.
The PACA league is a high level land padel, we have 25 players and 25 players in the French top 100, 88 tournaments were organized in 2018 (including 13 P1000) in PACA.
The league organized a qualifying championship for the French championships, we were able to count 55 teams of which 6 qualified for the French championship in Toulouse (1 women's team and 2 men's teams).

Le padel is making a place for itself as a mass discipline. 3 indicators to demonstrate it:

  • The evolution of the number of classified: we now have 6000 players classified in France;
  • The number of approved events: in 2017, we were in PACA in the lead, but the practice is now developing throughout the territory and the competitions are developing everywhere: above all, we must succeed in harmonizing all these events, smoothing the tournaments in PACA, because in 2018 in PACA, we realized that 16 structures did not organize any tournament ... We must develop the amateur level with our desire to offer "the padel and competition for all ”.
  • 3rd indicator is the evolution of club projects concerning the padel : in PACA, 2 projects in 2016 and 11 in 2018.

The discipline is an integral part of the FFT development policy and the league, the goal now being to develop practice sites throughout the territory;

Regarding actions taken ...

Actions carried out through the commission padel PACA to strengthen this dynamic are numerous. The PACA league is a pilot league for the FFT and the year 2019 will be the year of PADEL and many actions are implemented.
  • 1st men's championship and 1 mixed TEAM championship, which brings together more than 50 teams in PACA, which is a success. This FFT homologated championship in the form of P100 AND P250, began in November and follows a meticulous organization like the tennis championships: everything had to be created, and of course this model will be used by other leagues. I would like to thank the entire team of employees of the PACA league who do an exceptional job. Without forgetting the active members of my committee;
  • The mixed events homologated in the tournaments, this year in PACA, about thirty tests should see the light of day;
  • 2 actions and jy particularly, are put in place by our PACA commission, this year to come:
    • a circuit SENIOR PLUS 45 years, which will begin in January, which will gather 11 stages on all the territory PACA. This circuit will be approved as P100 or P250;
    • for young people: rallies / detections / friendly tournaments will be organized on 16 sites in 2019.
Other development perspectives in my opinion:
  • better identification of the padel
  • better communication of the activity
  • teaching and structuring of schools padel
we need to help clubs get organized and put clubs at the heart of the subject.
we must never dissociate competition and development, we must approach private structures, we can really confirm today that the padel receives real consideration from the federation, the league, which facilitates the development of the discipline
