On the occasion of Cupra Padel Point Tour tennis Padel Club La Ciotat, Alice De Caunes spoke with Alexandre Toppin, French No. 35 and coach of padel at the Tennis Club Toulonnais.

From tennis … to padel

I started with tennis. Now I've been playing for 6 years padel. I discovered this sport with friends and I got into it bit by bit. It is now my profession and my hobby also on a daily basis.

With Matthieu Armagnac, it works well!

During the last tournament in Perpignan, it was the first time that I played with Matthieu Armagnac and we got along very well. I suddenly think that now the biggest tournaments (P1500, and P2000), I will do them with this player who is left-handed and with whom I get on very well on the field.

Afterwards, for the P1000s, I don't have a regular partner yet, but I like to play with different players so that's interesting too.

The P2000 with Matthieu was one of my best performances in padel. This is where I finished in the best place, we finished sixth, we lost a very tight match against Baptiste Moura and his partner for fifth place. But we had a very good tournament, against the winners we also had three sets, which was pretty good and it was encouraging for the future!

A vocation: coach of padel

I am a coach of padel in Toulon for a year now. The club (Tennis Club Toulonnais) has really evolved since we are the biggest club in France, if I'm not mistaken, in terms of licensees padel (more than 700 licensees padel).

And the club is in total explosion with this sport, we have 10 pitches at the club and it's true that level requires padel, it's madness too. It is always a pleasure to share this passion through teaching.

Le padel, still growing

I started, as I said, about 6 years ago and it's true that at the beginning it was complicated. When we said padel, we were often told about paddle on the water and now people know what paddle is padel and want to play it. Lots of people play, even older people and it's true that it's very interesting because everyone loves this sport.

The Cupra Padel Point Tour in La Ciotat, a great success!

This stage of the Cupra Padel Point Tour in La Ciotat was really super nice. There were a lot of people, even the little ones who wanted to play, a lot of adults too and everyone enjoyed themselves, I think, with this beautiful weather. It was a great animation with a very good organization!
