After one women's final over 3 hours, full of suspense, it was the turn of the gentlemen to tread the carpet of the 20×10 of this WPT Alicante Open 500

The poster of the day was enticing. On one side we had the Andalusians  Javier Ruiz and Gonzalo Rubio  and on the other the sensational pair of the tournament,  Juanlu Esbri and Edu Alonso .

A one-sided first set

From the outset, the Andalusian pair did not lace and knew how to impose their rhythm, putting pressure on their rivals. Very quickly, Ruiz and Rubio took the advantage, going so far as to post a 5/0 at the “marcador”. However, the two Valencians had not said their last word and showed an unfailing desire to win on the pitch, taking two games from their opponents. Unfortunately for them, it was not enough because back from the bench, it was the Andalusians who took advantage of their greater experience to close this first round in their favor.

Esbri and Alonso have not said their last word

Stung to the quick, the Alonso / Esbri pair came back from the break more motivated than ever to resume the game in hand. Confident, the two players were more solid and aggressive, thus taking the advantage in this second set. Despite a good comeback, Javier Ruiz and Gonzalo Rubio failed to pick up the score. It was therefore after a set concluded 6/4 that we were able to find the four protagonists of the meeting for a decisive third set.

A decisive third round

Unleashed on the track, the two pairs continued to provide the show to the delight of the public who came in large numbers this Sunday.

Neck and neck for almost all of this third round, it was finally Juanlu Esbri and Eduardo Alonso who managed to take the lead and win their first final after 2h11 of a tough battle.

 Final score: 2/6 - 6/4 - 6/4
