The reigning French champion, Bastien Blanqué, also answered questions from Padel Magazine on the central court of the Palais des Sports in Toulouse.

He will enter the track this Wednesday alongside his partner Thomas Leygue against Mario Del Castillo Marín / Miguel Benítez Lara for the first round of World Padel Tour French Open.

A place at the height of the event

“The track is magnificent, the Palais des Sports is exceptional. There is no false bounce, the windows bounce. You can leave the track, there are 12 meters to lob, these are the exceptional conditions for playing padel. "

A painful memory

“As for my worst memories, I would say the final lost at the French Championships against Johan (Bergeron) and Benjamin (Tison). It's not my worst memory, but this defeat still hurt me. I also have a bad memory of a match I played at the World Championships against Uruguay. We had four match points and I made catastrophic errors on those match points. I didn't perform well in this match.”

A mix between Leygue and Coello

“When it comes to my ideal partner, I would honestly say someone like Thomas Leygue. But also with Coello, who makes no mistakes, who is great and with whom we share moments of fun…”

La Bullpadel Hack, his ideal racket

“My ideal racquet is the one I currently use. it's about the Bullpadel Hack that I had the chance to customize, because they offered me this opportunity. I requested a slightly different carbon composition than commercially available, as well as a slightly lower weight. I enjoy playing with a slightly lighter racquet.”

Full card for Roland-Garros

“My favorite tournament is Roland-Garros, and in second place is the World Padel Tour From toulouse. The biggest prize money I won was also at Roland-Garros. When we won our first match with Adrien, we won €3.”

7 rackets broken in total

“I have already broken a racquet out of anger, even several times. Since I've been a pro for 7 years, I've broken one a year on average, and it usually happens during training sessions. So in total I broke 7 racquets.”

friends, fishing

"Outside of padel, I enjoy spending time with my friends and organizing barbecues. But I'm also a big fan of fishing, although unfortunately I don't have much time to indulge in it due to my many tournaments.”

A furry routine

“Before a game, I put my AirPods directly in my ears and listen to music, especially Eminem. Then, I prepare myself by doing warm-ups, massages, muscle activation exercises, and I also incorporate some stretching. This is all done in about 30-45 minutes.”

The middle

“What I like most about padel, it is its playful and spectacular aspect, this amusing dimension of sport.

What I like least is the difficulty of finding partners on the circuit. It can sometimes be a real challenge to form a harmonious team to play with.”

In red

“My one particular ritual is that in big games I like to wear red-colored clothes.”

An unforgettable experience

“My most incredible experience in the padel was at the World Championships, when we won the bronze medal. The emotion that overwhelmed me, the support of the whole team, it was really unique and extraordinary.”
