In an interview, Fernando Belasteguin confessed to having hidden his years of success, his 16 years as world number 1 from his children. He only told them very recently.

Indeed, he explains that he did not want them to grow up around this idea that their father had been so successful in the world of sport.

He goes on to say that he has managed to hide this from his children because he does not keep his trophies at home. They saw rackets and sportswear but had no idea their father was so successful.

Bela: “It was clear that in my life I was going to have children, and I didn't want them to grow up around the champion. So I gave the trophies to my friends, there are many who have them ”.

The Argentinian player did everything to hide the secret from his children but when his eldest entered college it was more difficult.

“My son is 13 years old. My other daughter is 11 and the youngest is 8. Until four, four and a half years ago, when Fede stepped into the big leagues at school, at no time did we tell her that I was number one… One day I went to get him and he said 'Daddy, is it true that you are number one in the world? “, keep on going Belasteguin during the interview.

Bela was slightly taken aback. He just asked: “Fede, who told you that?” His son answered him calmly: “The boys told me in the yard”.

Following this, Belasteguin went to school to find the best way to announce his identity. After careful consideration, the next day he confessed everything to his eldest son who immediately repeated it to his sisters. Since that day, his children always want to follow their father during his tournaments.

Fernando Belasteguín is now 42 years old and still one of the best players in the World Padel Tour. He has already won three tournaments this year.
