Benjamin Tison and Johan Bergeron gave us an interview during which they come back to their association and their goals for 2021.

Padel Magazine : How was this new pair set up?

Johan Bergeron: “It happened naturally, without thinking… There was a time in the year when I didn't take no more fun to train on the right. To prepare for the WPT anyway, I preferred to train on the left (this allowed me to play hard) and play the WPT on the right… It was at this point that little by little, I started to like playing on the left, like to see the padel in a different way. I played a few times with Ben (without necessarily thinking of a change of sides) and it always played well between us. At the end of the year, when the assessments were made, we thought about it and we came to an agreement on this association. ”

Benjamin Tison: “After the last WPT tournament, Johan confirmed to me his idea of playing on the left next year, we gave ourselves a little time to think about it and we quickly agreed, I always had a very good feeling with Jo, the two FIPs we played together confirmed that to me. ”

Padel Magazine : Is this association limited to France, or will we also see it on the WPT?

Johan Bergeron: “We left for play everything together, unless Ben has a good chance, he'll play the WPT with someone else. We are also thinking about this story of points because it can change everything for the paintings of the World Padel Tour… We are sure for France and the FIP! ”

Benjamin Tison: “In France and on the FIP circuit, that's for sure. On the WPT, we still let ourselves a short week to make a decision. Let's say that on the World Padel Tour, the points are more important than the level, so it will depend on the proposals that we can have both. ”

Padel Magazine : Johan Bergeron, how was your separation from Bastien Blanqué in France understood?

Johan Bergeron: “Of course it is a difficult separation, even for me… I had incredible moments with Bastien! I just came to a point where I felt the need to change sides to regain my motivation to train, to play… I am someone who works so much for motivation in everything, that without it I really have a hard time fighting on the field. I really hope that this separation has been understood, because there is in no way a desire to hurt Bastien. It's really because I want to try on the left, and today the best player on the right is Benjamin! ”

Padel Magazine : Today, we see French players ready to be tempted by an adventure on the APT Padel Tower. Is this your case for 2021?

Johan Bergeron: “No, the APT circuit is a circuit that is likely to make a lot of noise in the world of padel, but it was complicated for me to have to leave several consecutive weeks in South America for example. ”

Benjamin Tison: “No, in 2021 I will play the WPT which remains today the number 1 circuit in Europe. I really like the APT circuit Padel Tour, but today it's only the start of my second year in Spain and the priority is the World Padel Tour. "

Padel Magazine : Jo, the fact of having played on the right all these years will be an asset for you on the left? Do you feel that you have more room for improvement on the left?

Johan Bergeron: “Passing to the left changes a lot tactically. Now, I'm trying to use all of my right-wing experience to remind myself of the kind of bullets I was having trouble with. Ben helps me a lot because I am still learning.

I think I had made the turn on the right, and some of my shots are better on the left. I think I could pass more levels on the left than on the right… We will take stock in a few months to see all that. ”

Padel Magazine : Benjamin Tison, what's the difference between having Scat or Bergeron by his side?

Benjamin Tison: “It's still too early to compare after 2 tournaments… but I think it's 2 different styles, scat is very strong on the smash, Jo more complete I would say, with a crazy backhand volley!”

Padel Magazine : Finally, what are your goals for 2021?

Benjamin Tison:  “In all honesty we have the ambition to win everything in France with the first objective of the French Championships. We would like to win a FIP Star even if we know the difficulty. On the WPT, I want my final table, I know it's very hard but I believe in it! ”
