At Human Padel Open, Carla Touly took her first steps in a major international tournament.

The one who calls herself a “novice in the padel” has nevertheless been courted by the best French players in just a few months of practice.

Despite a defeat alongside her more experienced partner, Charlotte Soubrié, the young player returned with a smile on her face to her debut in this sport.

  • My best memory: the European Games I hope

“I don't have one yet. In a week, we leave for the European Games and I hope that will become my best memory.

As for the worst memory, I don't have one at the moment. There are just ups and downs. If I start to consider each defeat as the worst memory, I think I will quickly stop the padel. Every game is an opportunity to improve, so as long as we fight for every point, winning or losing doesn't matter. These will simply be moments that will allow us to progress. I try to take it that way.”

  • That sounds good

“I've always played with the same racquet. I tried one Babolat and a Wilson, but I would say mine is the best. It is ideal for me because it is Alix's racket. I like its color, but also the fact that it produces a great noise when I hit hard. It is for these reasons that I decided to keep this racquet.”

  • My ideal partner: a great friend, a work colleague?

“At the moment it is difficult to say which is the best choice, because the padel is a sport that really differs from tennis. I discover that the padel is both a collective and very individual sport. I don't know yet whether it's better to be a “super friend” with your partner or to consider her as a co-worker. I think it's not good to hate yourself, you have to find the right balance.

Since I am a beginner, it is difficult to answer this question. I've been lucky so far, because I've always worked well with the partners I've played with. Maybe in a few years I will have a more specific answer, but for now, being still new to this business, it's hard to say for sure.

  • If I go off the track, I stop the padel

"The move I would like to make is an exit. Playing on the right is not easy but one day I hope to play on the left and make an exit. And if I get there, I think I quit it padel (Laughs)."

  • Difference Between FIPs and WPTs

"I found that there was still a big difference between FIP and WPT. This is my first here (note. Human Padel Open), but I find that the conditions are really professional and it's very pleasant to play tournaments in these superb conditions. I haven't been there yet, but I'm going to see the Petit Palais des Sports, I think it's going to be very beautiful."

  • 350€

"It was I think the P2000 of Bordeaux in the semi-finals, and it seems to me that it was 350 € if I'm not mistaken."

  • Tennis…

"I will say tennis. Even if I don't practice it anymore, I practiced it for 20 years so tennis remains number 1."

  • Le padel, there are no routines

“I love learning every day. I find that at padel, there are a lot of moves to learn, and since I started, I feel like I'm learning something new with every practice. This is something that no longer happened to me in tennis, where I was often in a routine. At padel, every day we can do different exercises, and I love it!

As for my least favorite, I would say maybe losing, but that's a feeling you find in all sports. Otherwise, I really like this sport.”

  • One music per tournament

“I like to do a short 5-minute run with music, and we do it together with my partner (Charlotte). It allows us to clear our heads and get into the game.

As for music, I don't have a specific song that I listen to. It depends on the tournaments in fact, because often there is music associated with each tournament. But in this tournament there were none, and maybe that contributed to our defeat.”

  • 1 month of preparation

“The thing that surprised me the most, I would say was my first tournament padel end of September. I had started training seriously in Spain only a month ago, and I decided to participate in a P500 tournament. I really thought I was rubbish, since I didn't have much experience in the sport, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that I wasn't doing so badly.

This experience really motivated me for the future. It may not have been an amazing experience in itself, but it made me realize that there might be potential in the padel For me. I had the chance to play alongside Laura Buteau, who took the risk of playing with me when I had never played a match and she was ranked n°13. It was really surprising for me to be contacted by Laura, and it gave me a great motivation to continue to progress in the padel. "
