Before heading to Acapulco, the world of padel had to say goodbye this week to a true lover and enthusiast of this sport, the Catalan Carles Prat. We send our most sincere condolences to his family and loved ones.

Sea, beach, warm sand, and the aerial acrobatics of Red Bull Diving evoke vacation. However, it is in this environment that our champions are preparing to compete in the 3rd stage of the circuit Premier Padel. They are not there to bask in the sun, but to excel on the field.

Between the public favorites, the new talents emerging, and the performances (or lack thereof) of certain teams, Welcome to Acapulco ! As usual, “Coach Zorrus” gives us his in-depth analysis of the tournament.

The point of the tournament

The competition highlights a team of young talents, with exchanges ranging from bajada to the volley “block“, concluded with a powerful smash from Lebron countered by a return off the court. An exemplary exchange of patience and strategy, to be studied in all schools of Padel.

The red card

Juan Lebron makes his return, and the thermometer rises! Between provocations and tensions on the court, the story between Lebron, Yanguas and Garrido is far from over.

The flops

  1. Sanchez / Josémaria, eliminated in the round of 16: their performance is perplexing.
  2. Bela / Capra, out in the 32nd: a defeat which perhaps sounds the death knell for their association.
  3. Salazar / Icardo, also eliminated in the 16th round: an unexpected poor performance for the “Reina” of the padel.
  4. Ortega / Virseda, a premature exit for the 4th world pair: just an accident?

The tops

  1. Ustero / Alonso, until the semi-final: their consistency is promising for the future.
  2. The “FRENCHIES” Blanqué / Guichard, narrowly beaten at the gates of the main draw: a defeat which could mark a turning point for them.
  3. Castello / Jensen and Riera / Araujo in the final: a nice surprise of this tournament!
  4. Coello / Tapia, undisputedly dominant: their faultless performance deserves to be highlighted.

The finals movie

For the ladies, a new generation final between Araujo / Riera and Castello / Jensen saw the latter win. An intense match, punctuated by an incredible number of break points, ended in two sets. Will this result bring a breath of fresh air to the padel female in 2024?

Among the men, Coello / Tapia continued their momentum, outclassing Galan and Lebron in less than an hour. Their domination was such that it leaves little room for analysis. The question remains: is it the desire to play together that motivates them, or the desire to end these four years in apotheosis?

The South American tour continues with the next stop in Venezuela for the Puerto Cabello P2. Ready for what’s next?
