David Lillo, the coach of Miguel Semmler, who coaches at David Lloyd La Finca, looks back on his player's tournament with Cyril Hanouna at Padel Sand.

David Lillo, number 1 in Madrid for the over 35s

“Last year I was number 1 over 35 and runner-up in Madrid. I've been playing for 20 years padel. I trained with great players: Sanyo Gutiérrez, Ramiro Moyano, Cristian Gutiérrez, Miguel Lamperti… I played with all these players even though I was never a professional.

I am 43 years old, at the time there was not enough money in the padel to really make a living. You had to give lessons on the side… For me, competition was more of a hobby, I played Madrid tournaments, national tournaments but never with the aim of becoming a professional.”

“The David Lloyd La Finca is an incredible club, with 13 tracks of padel, 10 tennis courts and a huge gym. We opened the part of the padel to non-subscribers. We have a school of 300 players with a leisure part and a competition part. We always have more players padel, and it's a chance for the club!”

“Cyril is still playing too fast”

“I train Miguel in Madrid and accompany him to certain tournaments. With Cyril, what we tried to do was to try to help him so that he could improve and be more competitive.

I think we should congratulate the opponents who played a very good game. Miguel is a very good player, and Cyril, who comes from tennis, still plays too fast. We want to teach him to play slower, and day after day he tries to play more padel and less in tennis!”

Cyril Hanouna in the French Top 100?

“I think Cyril can enter the French top 100, but for that he needs to be very patient, to gain experience by playing a lot of matches and tournaments. Little by little, he understands this sport better and better.

Finally, for anyone, and not just the padel, if you really get down to one thing, I think you can achieve your goals!”
