Elodie Invernon: “Easy matches at the Worlds are over!”

Élodie Invernon looks back on the course of the French team at the Emirati World Cup, punctuated by this seventh place which she judges “disappointing".

“We had to release the pressure”

During the last meeting against Germany, I was overcome by emotion during the match and especially afterwards. The sensations were not good on the track. There was frustration of not doing better this week with the group. Fatigue has also accumulated.

And when this last match ended, the pressure went down and I was very moved by this adventure with its pluses and minuses.

“A group of 5 including 3 teams for 2 places”

We were in a pool which was not obvious. First, we were in a pool of 5, unlike the other pools which were made up of 4 nations.

Admittedly, we were seeded 4 and we didn't fall to Argentina or Spain either, but Sweden and Brazil are strong teams.

And we had a difficult start which weighed on the rest of the competition. We had some tough encounters.

The positive point is that we fought with the whole team, we experienced a lot of strong emotions during this group stage.

The negative point is that it cost us a lot of energy!

“A big disappointment against Belgium”

Behind it, it's all about the details. We suffered a great disappointment against Belgium in the quarter-finals. We are aware that we were favorites against Belgium, but they played very well. And we less well.

The euphoria of managing to finish in first place in the group despite the defeat against Sweden was immense. It revived us. So obviously the backlash after the defeat against Belgium was difficult for the whole team to digest. The euphoria gave way to great disappointment.

Inevitably, behind to revive, it is very complicated. Especially since we are playing Portugal… We did our best to get back into the fight but it's not easy.

“Competition is more important than before”

I think we have to take into account the evolution of the padel feminine. And more generally padel professional as a whole. It may be a novelty for girls, but this World Cup has shown one thing: competition is more important than before.

The margin of safety that France could have against certain nations has been reduced. And it is enough to be a little worse to find ourselves in complicated positions.

We no longer have an easy match unlike other years, the padel evolves all over the world!

We will have to continue to work even harder to bring us closer to the best nations and ensure that the matches turn in our favor thanks to experience.

“Play internationally”

I think that despite this negative result we had a good attitude. It is the most important. This is where we see if a group is united or not. I was very proud to wear the French jersey, hence this disappointment, even more important.

The setting was exceptional and we get along very well within the team.

I intend to play more internationally to be better and gain experience.
