The 100% French pair formed by Bastien Blanqué and Thomas Leygue lost this Wednesday evening 6/3 6/4 against the Spaniards Miguel Benitez and Mario Del Castillo. This 1/16e final of the Human Padel Open did not start under the best auspices for the tricolors.

Dominated, the reigning French champions seemed to be looking for each other during the first round, in particular Thomas Leygue, who lacked success by sometimes seeking too much difficulty. A little more consistent, Blanqué touched few balls at the end of the set, the French not managing to recover their lost service (6/3).

Between faults and winning moves

For the French pair, the match really begins at 2e set. More in demand than in the first, Bastien Blanqué made a few mistakes, but lined up even more winning shots. For his part, Thomas Leygue is gradually gaining confidence and has several good points, especially on smashes.

In 4e game, the work of the tricolors was rewarded with a break obtained on a missed smash by Benitez, following a slightly short but very high lob from Leygue. But the latter commits several faults in the next game and Bastien Blanqué fails to hold his service game.

Blanqué is aggressive during the next game, winning three winning points which give two break points to Toulouse and Aixois. But a double recovery error from Leygue after Del Castillo's window serves ruined break hopes.

22 unprovoked fouls in the second set

And in the next game, it was Benitez and Del Castillo, more aggressive and enterprising, who again delighted Blanqué's serve.

The match point will reflect this somewhat frustrating game: the French are creative and offensive, but a failed attempt to sleepy turns against them when the point seemed almost acquired.

The final score is 6/3 6/4 in favor of the Spaniards.

While they created chances in the second set, the French were penalized by their mistakes: in this set alone, Leygue committed 12 unprovoked faults (for 9 winning points) and Blanqué made 10 (for 12 points winners).
