Jérémy Ritz, one of the very best French players in padel looks back on his year 2018 spent alongside his friend Jérôme Ferrandez. A year when the pair did “never been far from doing something ” but finally "the stage has not been reached". This very popular player on the circuit also gives us some information about his 2019 season.

2018, a year where you were never far away?

I played the season with Jérôme Ferrandez who is a great guy with whom I got along very well. We shared some good moments on and off the pitch and this is the most important for me.

We lost very little below but we also didn't manage to beat stronger teams than us. We were very often in the semi and in the final but we missed a little something to take the additional steps.

The disappointment remains the French championships, we lose in the quarterfinal against Huet / Lapouge - Dimitri had an incredible match and we, we missed out and we lost very logically.

It was an important goal of the year and we did not manage it very well. On arrival we finished 7th and it was a disappointment.

So, how will the suite work?

For 2019, we chose to separate with Jérôme Ferrandez.

I will be playing a large part of the season with Maxime Moreau. He has a calendar padel very busy with his collaboration with 4padel in Bordeaux, the WPT and the French circuit so we will see to what extent our schedules can be matched.

For now, the plan is to play the P2000 in France, some P1000 and the championships of France.

We played two tournaments together in 2018, we lost having match point against Haziza / Scatena and a very hungry match against Tison / Maigret - encouraging defeats!

Regarding training, no change I am still at home in Cannes and I try to organize myself to play regularly without any specific program.

My business is 2 years old and it is much better structured now, so I have more freedom and I will try to train more than what I did last year.

More and more French players are being tested in Spain. And you ?

This is still not relevant. I have a lot of things to do in France that fascinate me as much as Padel so I will not be leaving in 2019. I am not forbidding myself to spend a few weeks in Spain to train, but it will not go further than that.

You had to abandon your selection in the France team for the world. One of the reasons is that you were considered the 8th man on the team and therefore with little chance of playing. A disappointment given the team's adventure?

No disappointment, I really thought a lot before leaving my place to Mathieu who played a little it's true but not the games at stake.

It worked out perfectly for them but there are a lot of cases where it could have been more complicated so I have no regrets. I am delighted for the French teams who have achieved historic performances, I have followed this as much as possible behind my computer.

The level goes up every year and the team is really competitive for both boys and girls, we can only rejoice!

This year you play with what racket?

I change sponsors and I join the Starvie team with Jessica, Mathieu and Max in particular. This interview will be the opportunity to officially announce it 🙂
I have not yet definitively chosen the racket with which I will play so I cannot give you the info.
