Our colleagues from Diario de Valladolid questioned Arturo Coello, the 21-year-old who exploded this year alongside the 24-year-old Argentinian, Agustin Tapia en kicking off 2023 with an incredible streak of 46 wins and just one loss. Will they succeed in doing the same in 2024?

A start to the year that surprises Coello

“When we started the year, our goal was not to get to where we are at all. The goal was to get to know each other better, to harmonize, to connect on and off the court, and to see what we were capable of doing and how far we could go.”

Small jumps

“I don’t think there was a big jump as such. It was a whole. First of all, playing with Lamperti was something unique. Then, playing with Bela was incredible luck. These are small jumps. And I say small jumps, even if they were huge, because that’s how I experienced them.”

Agustín Tapia, the most talented on the circuit

“Tapia is the most talented player I have ever seen, along with Juan Martin Diaz. The talent does not lie in the spectacular gestures he makes, but in the ease with which he handles all the situations that arise on the court.

Bela, is it Tapia and Coello, is it JMD?

It will take many more years to be compared. Maybe people see that, in terms of quality of play, we are the duo that is most like what they were. Tapia looks like Bela and I look like Juan. But what they have accomplished is still very far away.”
