Italian Luigi Carraro is the new President of the International Federation of Padel and therefore succeeds another Italian Daniel Patti. He was elected on November 2 at the FIP general assembly held annually. It took place during the world of padel in Paraguay. Luigi Carraro will take up his official duties from January 1, 2019 for a period of 2 years.

25 federations took part in this GA, including France, which showed that it was very present on the international scene of padel and that she intended to gain more weight, even if it must be said, France does not weigh heavily in the votes.

But the French Tennis Federation is one of the most powerful sports federations in the world. The padel has become a real issue for the FFT since the appointment of Hubert Picquier more than 6 months ago.

With Pascal Maria, the former International Tennis Referee who took up duties at the FFT on international issues, and therefore the elected official in charge of padel, Hubert Picquier, the FFT thus wishes “tosee a bigger role within the FIP with the possibility of integrating its board".

But alongside this GA, a controversy (already) could take more and more importance in the coming months: the integration of Iran into the FIP.

Indeed, the FIP took advantage of this general assembly to approve the integration of 4 new federations within the FIP: Hungary, Thailand, Senegal and finally Iran.
