Malaga will become the epicenter of padel amateur from October 6 to 9 with the organization of the 1st International Club Cup padel, in which 144 players from 24 teams will participate.

The presentation of the competition took place this Tuesday by the sports advisor, Noelia Losada; the president of theEuropean Association of Clubs padel (EFCA), Claude Baigts; the Shark partner Padel – manufacturer of padel and equipment – ​​Alfonso Jiménez; and the director of Key one Events, Ionian Carballo.

In total, there will be 144 participants from 14 countries, plus an international selection from EFCA, called Barbarians. The city of Malaga will be represented by 14 players from two teams: the Shark Team Malaga and the Costa del Sol selection.

This event takes place in Malaga for the first time under this name, since last year the EFCA organized the European Cup of Clubs of padel (at Club León XIII facilities). This year, the tournament includes American and African clubs and its vocation is to remain in Malaga and to be held there at least until 2025.

The competition is co-organized by the Sports Department of Malaga City Hall and the European Association of Clubs of padel. The opening ceremony will take place on Friday, October 7 from 18:30 p.m. at the Inacua center in Malaga. All clubs will parade behind their country's flag and with their club's pennant. Each club will receive the visit of the highest authority of the city, accompanied by Claude Baigts and the president of Shark Padel.

CICP format

As with the European Club Cup held five times previously, the format will divide clubs into eight groups of three. This time around, each meeting between the clubs will see two matches between male pairs and one match between female pairs.

The eight clubs that finish first will compete for the gold medal, the eight second will do so in the silver table, and the third in the bronze table.

The quarters and halves will be played on Saturday and the finals will take place on Sunday. The EFCA considers Malaga to be the world capital of padel because of its history and origins, infrastructure, number of players, climate and sports universities. The facilities of the Centro de Raqueta de Málaga (Inacua), with 17 courts, represent a great advantage for the organization of this tournament.
