“We are paying the price for last season”, it is with these words that Mariano Amat, the coach of the world No. 1 pair, spoke about what his team is currently going through.

Juan Lebrón and Ale Galán, who dominate the padel world for three years, are experiencing a complicated start to the season, between injuries, defeats and controversy.

A difficult start to the season

Still, the pair had started the season on the right foot before forfeiting the third La Rioja Open tournament, due to knee problems for Ale Galán. A decision criticized by Lisandro Borges, the organizer of the American tour.

Some time later, during the WPT Paraguay Open, they had to forfeit again. The reason this time: an injury to the right arm of Juan Lebrón.

And now, at the gates of the Granada Open, the pair is once again absent due to the non-recovery of El Lobo and a new injury of Ale Galán, a fibrillar tear in the biceps femoris.

Faced with all these difficulties that have arisen recently, Mariano Amat has given himself over to The little one Padel on the situation experienced by his players.

A very tough 2022 season

“We finished last season at the end of our limits from every physical and mental point of view... It was a very tough season.

When you win and achieve goals, you feel better, but the injuries and the wear and tear are there. We tried to recover in pre-season, but it was very short and Ale didn't get the start we wanted.

“Last season we played over 100 games. Basically, all tournaments except one.

You play more than the others, from Tuesday or Wednesday to Sunday without rest… This has a price. We are paying the price for last season.”

A frantic pace since the beginning of 2023

Five weeks in a row, from Qatar to La Rioja... We couldn't go to Argentina and Chile, we reached the final and we lost.”

“We focus a lot on daily work. The rest, you have to accept it, and work to improve.”

Back in Brussels?

“Ale had a fibrillar tear in the biceps femoris. Juan is coming out of injury, but still hasn't fully recovered… In principle, both will be back in 2-3 weeks.

We will try to be in Brussels, it depends on the evolution.”
