Marie Maligo shares her story with padel, she looks back on her experience with her different partners and the dynamics of the new duo that she now forms with Mélanie Ros.

A first experience with padel in half-tones

At first, my experience with padel was not very conclusive, especially because I came from tennis. However, after persisting, I really ended up loving padel, to the point of abandoning tennis. Before that, I was a tennis teacher, but over time, I needed a change. On top of that, I had a serious injury at the age of 17/18, a sprain with torn ligaments, which forced me to stop for about a year. For me, padel became an excellent way to get back into sport and discover something new.

What I particularly like about padel is playing as a team. I also find it to be an extremely fun and enjoyable sport. I have been playing it for seven years now. Although I am originally from Belgium, I play in France because the organisation is more suited to my needs. The matches mainly take place on weekends and there are significantly more tournaments than in Belgium.

Not always easy to find partners…

It's true that last year I had many different partners, which was partly linked to my ranking. When I started playing in France, I was ranked around 80th, and it was difficult to find well-ranked teammates. It was understandable, since the players didn't really know me. However, I think that this period of frequent changes of partners was beneficial for me in the sense that it was very educational I find.

Encouraging beginnings with Mélanie Ros

These are our debuts with Mélanie. We have already participated in a few tournaments and we have decided to play together for the entire 2024 season. We will see what the future holds for us, but I am optimistic because we have good start to the season, we get along well and the results are encouraging. We hope to maintain this dynamic.

Padel is progressing, in France as in Belgium

I notice that padel is really starting to develop well. Clubs seem to be in a real race to add more and more courts, which is a testament to the increase in the number of players. In Belgium, there are a lot of new people starting to play padel. I could not say for sure if the development is more advanced in France than in Belgium, but it is clear that in both countries, padel is progressing impressively.
