Mélissa Martin, the ninth French player, shares her experiences on the Cupra Padel Point Tour with the Welldone team. She also looks back on her international career and gives her opinion on the state of the padel women on the Cupra FIP Tour.

A new tennis record Padel Greater Besancon

“There have been some concerns about the setting up of the Cupra Padel Point Tour in Besançon, in particular because of the rain. However, we managed to put together some great facilities.

With 30 pairs present in the middle of July, we set a new record in Besançon. It was undoubtedly the event of the city.

We were pleasantly surprised by the number of children present at the club. They really marked this event. The Cupra Padel Point Tour, it is also and above all that. I think we really fulfilled this mission, especially during the clinic, which was mainly dedicated to children.

I want to emphasize that without this team who do an incredible job throughout the year, this round would not be what it is.

Next stop: Bandol

“It's an absolutely incredible event with more than 100 players, so much so that we had to stop registrations for almost a month. For the clinic, we will have Lucile Pothier and Marie-Amélie Dardaine. For the exhibition match, we will have Aurélien Grandmont and Alex Rusovan.

Remember that we will have a big P1000 the following week, that Padel Magazine will cover.”

Head to FIP Rise Al Alamein this week

“I will participate in the FIP Rise Al Alamein in Egypt with the Portuguese Bruna Melo. I will definitely do one more tournament in August.

I want to participate in more and more FIPs to accumulate points. My goal is to participate in Roland-Garros. We don't yet know who will get the Wild Cards. With Louise (Bahurel), we plan to participate in two FIPs by next September. “

A big difference between what we see on TV and reality

“Between the announcement of the end of the ladies' events on the A1 circuit Padel, which was done at the last minute, and neglected women's events on the FIP Tour, it is true that it is not easy to play on the international circuit and to get organized.

We all have a side job. There is a real difference between what we see on TV and the reality of the first rounds or the international stages. This can sometimes decrease motivation. For example, for the A1, we invest, spend money, try to play the game, and finally, it does not happen, it's a shame, because it was a beautiful circuit for the ladies. An FIP event can also be canceled at the last minute, or the organization on site can be deplorable.

Whether for men or women, the situation is the same there. We are all appalled at the state of the majority of FIP steps. For some clubs, it's just one more tournament in the year. It depends a lot on the expectations of the clubs, and the FIP is not always up to it...

During the last FIP in Belgium, for example, there was no reliable entry list less than a week before the event. The organizers had nothing on site.”
