The French women's team obtained the 7th against Germany by winning three to zero. Captain Robin Haziza's players wanted to end this disappointing World Cup on a high note, while they were hoping for a 4th place, or even better.

Collombon sick

The French number 1 Alix Collombon, sick, was not aligned this morning, but her teammates did the job. The assessment of these Worlds remains to be done, but the disappointment is in order in the team, as confided to us Melissa Martin, emphasizing that “out of four big games, we lose three”: Sweden in the pool, Belgium in the quarter and Portugal in the classification match. Only the victory in group against Brazil represents a satisfaction.

Another consolation, France is qualified directly for the final stages of the next Worlds.

The results :

Amélie Detrivière / Léa Godallier 6/1 6/1 Milla Blaskeke / Corina Schollen

Lucile Pother / Elodie Invernon 7/5 6/4 Victoria Kure / Denise Hofer

Fiona Ligi / Melissa Martin 6 / 3 6 / 1 Kristina Clement / Luciana Renic

Ligi: “We would have liked a different scenario”

“You could say that it was a match to release a little all the pressure and the hard knocks experienced, Fiona Ligi told us after her match. Despite everything, we had to stay focused, attentive and dynamic in order to finish on a good note and close this World Cup in a good way.

You have to know that we didn't have an easy draw, a very competitive group and despite a defeat against Sweden we were able to recover against Brazil then against Paraguay and Dubai. It's played in a set, we didn't give up, we finished first with difficulty but we did it! Then this disillusion with Belgium was very hard for everyone..

It's hard, after this defeat on Belgium to remobilize, but we are a team and it is together that we recover from the difficult stages and together that we celebrate the exploits. We would all have liked a different scenario for this week, an end other than that, that's for sure... Unfortunately, that's how it is, there's no going back, so it's up to us to stick together to get up and go out together with our heads held high. We finished 7th in the World Cup, yes we would have liked to play this match for 3rd place, but that's how it is, you have to accept it...

I'm proud of this team, of our team, we spent 12 amazing days together, we laughed, cried, shivered, and we have to keep one thing in mind, the most important thing, we will come back stronger!!!”
