At our microphone, the captain of the French men's team, Pablo Ayma, returned to his impressions concerning the French Championships, but also on the future of his group. Likewise, he took the opportunity to provide some advice to young players who wish to reach the top level.

“I have to think about a team for next March”

“There are always more new and good players emerging. It's true that there is a group of players who play very well and who participate in several competitions. In some time, it will be very likely to see them representing the French flag.”

“Normally what we do is wait and see how they perform in different competitions. We could take the finalists and semi-finalists of these French Championships, because they deserve to enter the group, but we also have to look if there are no injuries, if there are more deserving players . It is a very difficult decision to make today, especially since the European Championships will most likely take place next March. We don't have a specific date yet., but I know I have to think about a team for that period.”

“I really enjoy this kind of competition”

“I know all the players who came to compete this weekend. It is true that I particularly follow the best in the country when they play on the FIP circuit.

“If you want me to give you names of new players who were able to demonstrate a high level of play, I am thinking of Dorian De Meyer and Thomas Vanbauce. They had a very good match and almost won against Jeremy Scatena and Dylan Guichard. Then, I would say Pierre Vincent, who for me has a lot of potential, Maxime Joris, who is young and plays really well.

Afterwards, I find it a shame that some good players like Philémon Raichman were not able to participate in these Championships. We also have Julien Seurin and Manu Vives who made it to the semi-final, which demonstrates their high level of play.”

“Players must train like professionals”

“It’s quite a process. play well padel, it is the result of several years of training. Benjamin Tison, Bastien Blanqué and Thomas Leygue train like professional players. They do physical and padel every day. They surround themselves with a sports psychologist and a nutritionist. They sometimes play and train with players better than them.

Many French players do not have the opportunity to face more experienced rivals or to play in numerous tournaments. The more you compete, the better you become. For example, Manu and Julien participated in a lot of events this season and the progress is felt.”

“We must promote 100% French projects”

“Individually, I told you what a player had to do to have a high level, but given that the padel is a sport that is played by two people, if you do not have a common project with your partner and you do not train with him, in the end, you give a certain advantage to your opponents. I think that when you have goals together, it's good to maintain them. Success will be achieved by forming a lasting pair for at least one year. Concerning the case of Julien and Manu, it seems to me that joining forces is the best solution, because they train and play tournaments together. I think it's a gamble worth taking and France should promote this 100% tricolor project. Besides, I like that more than a Franco-Spanish association. For me, that would be an interesting bet.
