Meeting with Pablo Olmo Villa, a young Spanish player with great ambitions who recently took part in the FIP RISE Bordeaux and Burriana. For Padel Magazine, he tackles different subjects: his beginnings in the padel, his future goals or his association with Agustín Reca, son of the legend Gaby Reca.

Birth of a passion

I started playing padel at the age of eight. Before that, I already played tennis and football. Ever since I was little, I have been very fond of sport. I started the padel thanks to my mother who was the first to try it in the family.

I've always loved competition, but it was at the age of 18 that I started to train more seriously to be able to enter the professional circuit.

An ambitious goal

My goal is to be able to make a living as a professional player, I like competition and I like to train. My main goal for this year is to get into the top 150 players in the world. I am currently n°256 in the FIP ranking. The road will be long, but with humility and hard work, the results will come.

The Olmo/Reca association

In September last year, I came to live in Madrid so that I could train while continuing my studies. I chose the Gaby Reca Academy because of its good reputation.

In training I met Agustín, Gaby's son. As we had a similar level, we started training and playing tournaments together. For the moment, we plan to continue the adventure.

Gaby Reca's advice

He always insists that we have a good attitude and that we are humble. The best advice he gave me is that if you want to obtain high-level results, you must first be professionals on a daily basis (take care of your diet, rest, warm up before starting each training …).

Be a player of padel Spanish, an advantage as a disadvantage

It is true that in Spain there is a lot of competition and this has its advantages and disadvantages.

On the one hand, it can be more difficult to get sponsors, because it is more difficult to get known among so many players. An example could be my personal case: I am currently looking for sponsors and it would probably be easier for me if I came from another country where there would be less competition because I would stand out more.

On the other hand, in Spain it is easier to find partners, because there are many more players. In addition, there are very good training academies all over Spain, and specifically in Madrid.
