We told you about it a few days ago, the schedule of World Padel Tour is out, and it is in no less than 14 countries that the world's best players will drop their suitcases for a competition. And as expected, the Mallorca Open, which was to be the inaugural tournament of the 2023 season, was replaced by the Master in Abu Dhabi. Worse still for the Balearics, there will be no tournament in Mallorca this year.

What really happened? What are the reasons for this cancellation?

Well, it would seem that the Balearic government and the authorities of the World Padel Tour did not find common ground. While the two entities had an agreement in principle regarding the organization of this event, the Spanish circuit would have decided to no longer pursue this project for financial reasons.

A regrettable situation as explained by our colleagues from Cope, a local newspaper that reports on current events in the Balearic Islands. Indeed, the host structures had already organized themselves to host the qualifying matches as well as those of the final draw, while some players, who had already bought their plane tickets to come and play the competition, would also be unhappy...

The Federation of Padel from the Balearic Islands was also disappointed: “We find it regrettable that an agreement could not be reached between the WPT and our authorities and we would also like to say that the FPIB did not participate in any way in this final decision. In any case we hope that in the near future we will be able to celebrate a high level event on our island because Mallorca and its fans deserve it”.

To overcome this disagreement, the leaders of the World Padel Tour quickly had to find a new solution. And it is in the United Arab Emirates that the season will begin. The cream of padel world will meet in Abu Dhabi for the first Master of the year and the only WPT event in Asia this season.
