Focus today on Quentin Ayuso, 26th in the French ranking. At the microphone of Padel Magazine, the young man looks back on his sporting career, which took him to the slopes of padel as well as his future projects.

A past as a top athlete

“My name is Quentin Ayuso, I'm 29 years old and I play padel in Occitania. I started playing at the end of 2018 even though I had been able to discover this sport during my studies some time before. I am currently 26rd in the French classification and I share the track with Morgan Mannarino."

“I played volleyball for 8 years at Arago de Sète, a wonderful sport that I discovered thanks to my father and my grandfather and I had the chance to join the club's training center and to make a few pro appearances.”

Why not combine profession and passion

“I am a physiotherapist and I have been practicing for a little over 4 years in the hinterland of Béziers. I'm not specialized in sports at the moment but I still have a few players from padel in my patient. Even if the majority are recreational players, we are gradually seeing new injuries appear. Until now, as it is a new sport in France, we lacked perspective on potential injuries.

"I've already thought about orienting my practice towards sport and why not combine profession and passion, but that's not on the agenda for the moment, the padel is a young sport.”

“I train in Barcelona with Nicolas Gavino”

"I try to go to Barcelona to train as soon as possible. There isn't really any regularity, I can very well go there twice in the same month and then not go back for two months. I mostly try to fit it all into my schedule. I train in Barbera del Vallés with Nicolas Gavino. At first I tried to take as many individual sessions as possible, then gradually to incorporate group lessons. There, the pool of players is so large that coaches can easily form groups of all levels."

"What is most striking is that in just a few keystrokes they have the ability to see your strengths, your weaknesses and to know how they can make you work and evolve. Every time I spend a short time there, Nico manages to give me a guideline to regain confidence in my game, it feels good."

“Until now I've always gone there alone, except once with one of my best friends."

“Use my full potential”

“It's hard to talk about a precise ranking objective as the level is changing so quickly. I would say more that it's a personal challenge to try to push my limits and see what level I can reach by having exploited my potential to the fullest. Try to compete as much as possible with the best and get good results in big tournaments.”

“I had the chance to make a FIP last year in Perpignan and the idea of playing internationally appeals to me. Obviously all this has a cost and requires good organization. And like all those who aspire to play the FIP circuit, it will depend on the search for sponsors but that, only the future will tell us.
