Jeremy Scatena qualified with his partner Roger Aromi for the last four of the FIP Rise of Canet-en-Roussillon 2022 after a tense match. The Frenchman explains himself at the microphone of Padel Magazine.

I want it to last

Padel Magazine : The level of play was there with a spectacular match.

Scatena "It's really positive for a pair not to play so well but to get away with it with attitude. It's true that there were good points and good outings. The opponents were brave, the second set was very good.”

Padel Magazine : With Roger Aromi, you train together, but you have only shared the track for two tournaments. Is it here to stay?

Scatena :“I want it to last. This is a great opportunity for both. He has a high level and few points. I have a lot of points so it's interesting for him. What I also bring to him mentally is good. Next week we play Alonso/Esbri (Editor's note: in Veneto), and these are the games we want to win.”

We are no longer on the same galaxy with Ben Tison

Padel Magazine : Your objective is to beat this kind of pair.

Scatena :"Exactly. I did half a season where I won the games I had to win, but I didn't put in a huge performance. Tison has progressed so much that if now I win the players of the ranking of Tison it means that I am a king! We are no longer in the same galaxy because the players he beats on a daily basis are the players I try to beat to make a big performance. We don't realize what he's doing."

Padel Magazine : Tell us about the small controversy that there was during the meeting.

Scatena :“It's true that we discussed a few balls because the game was tense. Yesterday, the players sent us the balls in the corners when we went to serve. One of the opponents behaved very well and the other very badly. We did what we could, and I didn't kick a ball into the sky, break my racquet or shout at the opponents. I don't know when I misbehaved... The event is amazing in any case !"

He wanted to fight with me

Padel Magazine : At the end of the match, there was a moment when you went to see the captain.

Scatena :“At the end of the match, the opponent didn't want to shake my hand. I went to the coach to calm things down, but he wanted to fight me. We left, I was a little hot. He wanted to hit me and Roger got in front of him. I will never fight on a ground of padel. If they hit me I will let myself be beaten because I am not here for that. They thought we stole points, but in tense games it's better to go back to the hotel and talk when things are calmer.”

Padel Magazine : Big game in perspective in the semi-finals…

Scatena :“The ball is going to come out a lot and it will be very hot. You know during the Covid and the tournament in Belgium I was almost in depression and I didn't enjoy the field. Today I think I've never been so happy in my life and I love it on the pitch. I hope it will last. I am an emotional boy.”
