The news came late on the evening of March 9. Following the positive screening of half a dozen inhabitants in the commune of BIEVILLE BEUVILLE at the gates of CAEN, the Prefect of Calvados issued a decree requesting the closure of certain establishments open to the public of this commune, including the covered sports establishments.

The Tennis club-Padel-Pommeraie Badminton, installed in the town since 1968 and recently converted to padel (while retaining tennis and badminton) therefore had to close its doors to the public for an indefinite period, and no later than March 23, 2020. Cancellation of reservations and group and individual lessons have been the only activity of the JEAN family since this morning. Technical unemployment for teachers, loss of business for the establishment, the consequences can be dramatic.

Damien JEAN, (co-manager with his father) testifies:

We absolutely do not question the measures intended to reduce the spread of the virus, but to see our establishment closed when it receives a maximum of thirty people simultaneously, on a surface of nearly 3000 square meters, when the other traders, bars and restaurants can continue to receive the public seems contradictory.

If we actually remain closed until March 23, it may be that the family business, whose activity has boomed upwards since the establishment of the padel, do not survive it.

The authorities are doing their best but often lose sight of the fact that alongside the vast majority of associative sport, there is also private sport which must be open to live. We are traders in sport. The clients we have today fall in love and show solidarity with us, which helps to stay positive and confident.

The Normandy regional health agency started an epidemiological study today.

Hope for the warm and family club of La Pommeraie can re-open its doors as soon as possible.
