It is a victory that will remain engraved in their memories: Maxime Joris (355) et Thomas Vanbauce (250) bring down Miguel Solbes (63) and Carlos Marti (77), seeded 2 in the tournament. They only needed two short sets to reach the second round: 6 / 2 6 / 4.

We knew that this match was not going to be easy for the Joris/Vanbauce pair, opposed to two players from the world Top 100. As a reminder, Miguel Solbes and Carlos Marti, it's a second round at the Qatar Major, lost to the superpibes : 6/3 6/3. So obviously, we could not say that the Frenchies were favorites of the meeting.

A perfectly mastered round

However, it was they who made the first break of this match and who led 3/0 on the scoreboard, from the first set. On one side, we found a Thomas Vanbauce mounted on spring, using his powerful smashes. On the other, a Maxime Joris comparable to a metronome, with a big defense and tiny who made his adversaries suffer.

The first set was easily won for the French pair, 6/2.

A second mental set

The second set was a little more complicated, with a break in favor of the Spaniards, who were therefore leading 2/1, service to follow. However, Thomas and Maxime did not give up and were able to regain their level of play from the first set to pick up the score and erase this break behind.

In the money time, while she was leading 5/4, the Vanbauce/Joris pair made the effort to get this last service game from their opponents, bringing them the break, the set and above all, the victory!

Since the start of the season, Maxime Joris and Thomas Vanbauce have been shining on the FIP circuit, with a semi-final in Dubai. They have notably become the bane of Manu Vives et Jerome Inzerillo (whom they beat in Dubai and Monaco).

Now they are waiting for their next opponents in this FIP Rise Nola. But, for now, they can rest and enjoy this great victory.

Gwenaelle Souyri

It was his brother who one day told him to accompany him on a track. padel, since then, Gwenaëlle has never left the court. Except when it comes to going to watch the broadcast of Padel Magazine, World Padel Tour… or Premier Padel…or the French Championships. In short, she is a fan of this sport.
