Thomas Leygue will be celebrating his 18th birthday today. The French player who will finish at the 13th place in the standings padel of the FFT at the end of the season hit hard in 2019. A look back at the adventure of a promising young player on the international scene.

What a year for Thomas! For 2 years, the French has never ceased to surprise with his level of play and his evolution. While he still seemed far from the senior France team, here he is at 18 with a double selection in the France team for minors and seniors. Rare in the history of French sport and a first even in the history of our young sport: The padel.

The Leygue footprint in 2019

He thus clearly marked the padel French in 2019. Will he do better next year? Complicated. First, since he will be 18, the youth tournaments are over for him. He will have to jump into the deep end.

But the advantage he has: "Since I play padel, I have always evolved among the greatest ” Thomas told us a few weeks ago alongside his partner Nicolas Trancart. “Nico” with whom he won his first P1000 at the Big Padel Bordeaux. They will be semi-finalists of the Master FFT PADEL TOUR in Marseille. No transition therefore for him, even if now he will be treated as a young player of course, but also as a senior. And we know how expensive places are in the France team of padel.

2019, a year that will have a very special place in his heart with in particular a victory in the inter-club championships of the powerful PACA league, finalist in the French championships of padel juniors and finally a superb 5th place at the World padel juniors with a big victory over Brazil.

Today, a left-wing player, Thomas Leygue is certainly the best in his category. This is certainly why Alexis Salles, the coach of the men's team, called on him for the European Championships of padel in Rome:

I wanted to offer this experience to Thomas Leygue for these Europe in Rome. A unique experience that could serve him in the future. He knew how to seize it even if he played little during this famous week. It must be said that we already had 3 formed pairs. Our 6 best French players were already known. Nothing better to get into the big bath without pressure.

2020: A year with ambitions

Thomas therefore decided to live his passion to the full and to do like almost all the players of the France team of padel : Go to Spain to try to make a “blow” on the professional circuit of padel.

This adventure began last September when he joined the University of "UGCA" in Madrid to follow a "STAPS" cycle and where he started training in Spain at the Brunete club with Hector Binet and Gaby Reca,

Thomas is not hiding, he has ambitions. The first of them: Relive the adventure of the France team during the next world of padel.

In his sights, the French top 10 and get results on the World Padel Tour.

Pressure? Why, then. He has very few padel behind him compared to the players he faces in Spain. No one expects him. He has everything to gain there, like all the French who try the adventure in Spain. Vamos Tom!
