Thanks to his victory in the final of the World Padel Tour Vigo Open last Sunday alongside Arturo Coello, Agustin Tapia became the new world number one. We come back to the start of the stratospheric season which took the “Mozart de Catamarca” to the top of the circuit.

During the first Master of the season, Tapia and Coello got off to the best possible start with a first victory in the final over Lebron and Galan. However, they will suffer a defeat the following week against Franco Stupaczuk and Martin Di Nenno in Qatar Major on the circuit Premier Padel under very slow playing conditions.

Conquering South America

This setback will finish putting the last adjustments of this still young association. This is the starting point of two absolutely legendary months on the World Padel Tour. The Spanish-Argentinian team will first win in La Rioja in very fast conditions, leaving no chance to their opponents, like the young nuggets Libaak and Augsburger, swept in less than 45 minutes in the final.

At the Chile Open, after a set dropped in the second round against Mendez / Martinez, the crazy spikers will drop another in the final against Lebron and Galan in a memorable match between controversy, incredible level of play and electric atmosphere. The new numbers 1 at Race will conclude the South American tour with a clean sheet after dominating a third time Stupa/Di Nenno.

At that time, you have to realize the prowess of Agustin Tapia and Arturo Coello: 4 titles in 4 tournaments, 17 victories in 17 matches with only two small sets lost on the World Padel Tour. In just one month of competition, the Mozart de Catamarca was in the running for the number one spot on the WPT.

The invincible formation

Coello Tapia - Granada Open

The return to Europe is going rather well for the two champions. In the absence of Lebron and Galan, they impose themselves on the Granada Open and brussels open each time beating the Superpibes Stupa/Di Nenno. The final in Belgium is a sublime duel, one of the finest of the start of the season.

The objective was now within sight after these 5th and 6th trophies: a victory in Vigo would propel the Argentinian to the throne of World Padel Tour. The pair with 27 out of 27 successes landed in Spain more determined than ever, in parallel with the return of Lebron and Galan who did not intend to let their three years of reign end like this.

It was after a new “Clasico” won in the semi-finals against Stupa/Di Nenno that the two best teams on the planet clashed. After a breathtaking encounter, Agustin Tapia and Arturo Coello win at the end of the suspense in a moment of indescribable emotion.

In the Firmament

The dream becomes reality for Agustin Tapia: he is number 1 in the ranking of the World Padel Tour (205 points ahead of his partner). This association with “King Arturo” made him progress by leaps and bounds, the numbers don't lie:

  • 7 titles in 7 tournaments played (1 Master and 6 Open 1000) for a total of 8000 points out of a possible 9000 in 2023! (Coello and /Tapia, like the other stars of the circuit, did not participate in the Open 500 of Reus and Alicante)
  • 32 wins in 32 games!
  • 5 sets conceded out of 69 played!

The season is still long, we will see what the future holds for this team which seems to have no limits. For now, Agustin Tapia and Arturo Coello are the new kings of World Padel Tour !
