Since the quarter-finals, we have observed a massacre among players and organizations, especially among women. Even if it's already been a few tournaments that we feel that the end of the season is approaching and that certain players are not at their highest level.
During the quarter-finals, it's the Spanish Lucia Sainz who was forced to abandon, following pain in the lower back.
The next day, it was her compatriot Jessica Castello who needed to be manipulated. If this time, the young player did not want to give up, she could no longer do anything in the second set and suffered a violent 6/0 against Josemaria/Sanchez.
Since the start of the year, tournaments have been coming one after the other, all circuits combined. Currently, we are at 21 tournaments on the World Padel Tour et 5 tournaments on the Premier Padel. We add to this the FIP tournaments, where some professional players visit regularly.
It remains 5 tournaments before the end of the season, since le Premier Padel in Egypt and the WPT Master in Buenos Aires, will not be played. Put to the test since the start of the year, we are starting to feel that our bodies are running out of breath. The intervention of physios is done on a more regular basis, as we have seen in Menorca.
Remember that the padel is a very traumatic sport for the body. In addition to the cardio and physical aspect, the terrain can sometimes be dangerous. Contact with the grid can hurt, an exit from the track can end up against the gate post, a whole bunch of situations which can explain the players' poor form.
The imposing bandages
Some players often return from injuries with an imposing bandage on their arm, as Marta Ortega or Tamara Icardo did. When the end of the season arrives, this device is more and more visible on the courts of padel.
From time to time, one might wonder whether the use of these large tapes does not have a more psychological aspect than anything else. But we know that the arm is called upon at each start and end of matches. Juan LeBron and Alejandra Salazar both needed surgery this year, Lebron's wrist and Salazar's elbow.
The question is valid : Are organizations overextended? Despite extensive physical preparation at the start of the season and before each tournament, professional players have little rest. Even though this year, several tournaments were canceled, the competition remained intense.
Nothing remains but 5 tournaments before the end of the year. There is no doubt that the players must be looking forward to this winter break.
It was his brother who one day told him to accompany him on a track. padel, since then, Gwenaëlle has never left the court. Except when it comes to going to watch the broadcast of Padel Magazine, World Padel Tour… or Premier Padel…or the French Championships. In short, she is a fan of this sport.
