Le premier national padel championship official will be organized by the Commission of Padel of the Luxembourg Tennis Federation (FLT) from 1er to September 11, 2022. The draw stages will take place in the two private padel centers on their eight indoor courts, namely at the CK Sportcenter in Kockelscheuer and at Sport4Lux in Munsbach. The championship finals will take place on September 11, 2022 on the two outdoor padel courts of Tennis Club Husen in Parc Hosingen.

Jean-Paul Felgen, President of the Commission for Padel of the FLT : "Holding this first national padel championship sponsored by CUPRA was a milestone for the Commission of Padel of the FLT and for padel in Luxembourg in general. We were positively surprised by the number of registrations and we are eager to see who will be the first padel champions of Luxembourg.

This tournament for padel players licensed with the FLT and sponsored by CUPRA is already a great success today with 60 registrations, especially if we consider that the application for a padel license and registration for the tournament was only possible from July 2022. As is customary in the Grand Duchy, the participants in the championship come from all over the world, including Luxembourg, Spain, France, Belgium, Portugal, but also Argentina, Mexico and Sweden.

Among the participants, there are also former high-level tennis players such as Claudine Schaul (former number 41 in WTA Tennis), but also high-level padel players such as Enric Batalla (former junior number 1 in Padel of Catalonia and player + professional coach of Letz Make It Padel).

Laure Felgen Claudine Schaul Claude Lamberty and Marcus Stegmann

Please note that the majority of participants in this national padel championship come from Luxembourg's first padel club "Letz Make It Padel » (created in January 2022), followed by Europadel Luxembourg and tennis clubs such as TC Husen, TC Howald, TC Bonnevoie, TC Schifflange, TC Nordstad, TC Gasperich, TC Arquebusiers.

The 78 matches will take place on 4 different levels (system comparable to that used in Belgium), ranging from P100 for the lowest, to P300 and P400 up to P500 which is the highest level in Luxembourg at the moment. The finals will therefore take place on September 11, 2022 on the 2 open courts at Parc Hosingen; P100-P500 semi-finals between 09:00 a.m. and 13:00 p.m. and the finals from 13:00 p.m., with the P500 grand final at 15:30 p.m.

This will be the perfect moment to see high-level padel matches in Luxembourg in a perfect setting with stands, catering, CUPRA car exhibition, parking and in a friendly atmosphere in the north of the Grand Duchy.

The organization of this championship was a very important stage in the action plan of the Commission of Padel of the FLT (created in November 2021 and composed of 6 members with Jean-Paul Felgen as president) for the development of this spectacular sport in the Grand Duchy. As in the whole world, padel is also experiencing exceptional growth in Luxembourg, which is highlighted by 70 competitive padel licenses registered with the FLT since July 2022.

Claude Lamberty, President of the FLT : "Padel, the new pillar of the FLT, is a sport that complements tennis and an opportunity for tennis clubs to expand their offering, thereby attracting new members and fostering good cohesion within the clubs. The current extraordinary development of padel in Luxembourg is commendable and the FLT encourages tennis clubs to set up padel courts."

The next big steps for padel in Luxembourg will be membership of the International Padel Federation. Padel (FIP) in order to have the Grand Duchy recognised at the international level and to facilitate access to FIP competitions for Luxembourg players. Another step will be to further develop padel infrastructure at tennis clubs (courts, coaches, etc.) and develop padel among young people. In this regard, we will see that in the coming years the number of padel courts will follow the growing number of players.
