Au Padel, it is recommended since we start playing to go up to the net when the opportunity arises. Several players engrave this principle in their minds, but do not know why.

In this column, we will explain why we must be net Padel.

Why go to the net?

This question often comes up during lessons given to beginners, and this is why you must give the principles by which you must do it in your matches:

  1. You reduce the opponents' playing space. If you go to the net, your opponents will have to better adjust their moves, which will make them make more mistakes.

  1. You will earn more points at the net. Under normal conditions, it is admitted that when the players are at the net, they earn more points. This does not mean that you have to go to the net at any time, but you have to work at the bottom of the court with the goal of winning the net, not winning the point.

  1. You can be more aggressive.  This is the area where you can better finish the points, because as soon as you get an easy ball, you have to take it out either 3 or 4. This does not mean that at the net you have to attack all the time, but that you are in attack position. There will be times when you have to counter the fast balls of the opponents with a stolen volley for example. And in other cases, if the ball is easier to hit, you can make a more offensive shot, and try to finish the point.

  1. Your opponents will have to force their shots. If you stay a certain amount of time at the net during a point, you can cause anxiety among your opponents who can not get back into the net. Imagine that the opponents use several shots, and they do not manage to make you back to the bottom of the field, it can cause a certain degree of nervousness, and they will take more risk in their next shots, so more probabilities to make mistakes.

  1. You avoid giving an advantage to opponents. If you always stay at the bottom of the field, you give your opponents a big advantage. There are many players who feel more comfortable playing at the back of the field, and who think they will be less tired. But this gives the net to your opponents, and it gives them more options to score points.
