Let's analyze the figures relating to the organization of tournaments padel in France over the first three quarters of 2020, 2 regions stand out: Occitanie and Aquitaine.

Lots of tournaments despite the Covid-19

Over the first 3 quarters of 2020, there was 1525 tournaments padel organized in France. Over the same period in 2019, there were 1530. Barely 5 less this year, when we have lived 3 months of confinement. In other words, there was almost as many tournaments this season in 6 months as last season in 9...

Without the health crisis, last year's figures would certainly have been pulverized, further proof that the padel continues to develop.

Two regions account for almost 50% of tournaments

Since the end of confinement, Occitania et New Aquitaine have worked hard in terms of tournaments. These two regions respectively organized 357 et 310 tournaments in 2020, i.e. 44% of tournaments organized in France !

Occitanie, which was already in the lead last year on the same date, remains within its standards, and the two clubs which organize the most tournaments logically belong to this region, the Toulouse Padel Club et Padel Tolosa. For New Aquitaine this is a great progression since she organized 55 more tournaments this year!

Behind, French Riviera (Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur), it seems he suffered more from confinement, since it recorded a significant drop between 2020 and 2019: 73 fewer tournaments organized over the period. This can easily be understood since it is widely equipped on outdoor grounds, and therefore organizes many more tournaments in spring than in winter ...

Ile de France was not spared by the crisis either: 53 fewer tournaments organized.

Nevertheless, together, these regions organize around 2/3 tournaments taking place in France, figures similar to those of last year.

Emerging regions

Despite the crisis, some regions are opening up to padel. This is the case Centre-Val de Loire, which has more than tripled its number of tournaments (from 10 to 34), Grand-Est (from 32 to 62), or the Normandy (from 30 to 56). The Guadeloupe has organized its first 2 tournaments this year!

These regions mainly organize the two types of tournaments which have the most the odds: the P250, and especially the P100!

P100: the king of tournaments

The P100 is the benchmark tournament in France, with nearly 60% of tournaments organized. Slightly increasing (+ 3%), these are the only tournaments that have not experienced a decline between 2019 and 2020.

This is certainly explained by the fact that these are the most profitable competitions for clubs (less funding, a more “leisure” public who consumes more). And the clubs, which suffered greatly from the confinement, really needed profitability!

357 P250 still took place over the period, which means that P100 and P250 together represent 83% of tournaments organized in France !
