Alizé Cornet caused a sensation at the National Padel Cup at the Cap d'Agde International Tennis Center to the point of revealing to us that the padel could be a sport where we could find it more and more often.

interview.

A sport that is good for morale

It's a sport that fascinates me more and more. Even though I think I still have everything to learn from this sport, I feel like I could quickly acquire the basics of this game.

With Mika (Kuzaj), we made a amazing game against 2 very good players, Jérôme (Ferrandez) and Laura (Clergue).

In reality, I didn't really think that we could hang on to them at this point… And in the end, we managed to beat them, after a very close game.

I think we weren't really the favorites to hear the applause and the post-game exchanges. It's not tennis, but it's good for morale.

It's a team sport unlike tennis.

I am a competitor. And maybe I have to change my way of being on the track a bit, because it's a team sport where you have to play against a pair, but also with your partner. And this is perhaps an area where I should improve.

I am still far from retirement in tennis. And for now, I focus on my career. Even though I can play padel for fun and because I like this type of competition, we must not lose sight of the objectives.

Le padel, an outlet

On the other hand, I think it's very interesting to play padel because it allows you to practice a racket sport, to stay alert, to work on your reflexes, it's even in a way a good job for players from the back of the court who don't go enough on the fly...

it allows me to do other things, while having fun. We can almost say or outright say that the padel is an outlet. (to laugh)

I could practice it more and more

Difficult to say today if I will play more regularly in the future. On the other hand, what is certain is that I will keep a small foot there for the moment. But that it could clearly expand.

At the end of my career or after my career, it's a sport that I could practice a lot because I love it.

The French team of padel, and why not !

I understand that we can talk about the France team of padel after a game and such a warm atmosphere around the pitch. Besides, I heard some very nice words from the audience. I thank them. But I think that's obviously premature.

First, because tennis is my top priority. And then, I think I miss some padel in the legs to actually apply for a place in this French team of padel.

On the other hand, I have the impression that being a good tennis player can help to play well at padel. And with Mika, we had a blast on the track. When you win, it's almost like winning a big tennis match. And that's what I love about padel also.

I don't want to forbid myself anything and after such moments, you tell yourself that pursuing a career in padel after tennis is always possible. And if that were the case, I know myself, I'll try to see if we can't continue the Team France adventure at padel.

But hey, you see that I'm already projecting myself… It's the proof that I really like this game. And that we have the right to dream, right?

Now let's play tennis anyway! (to laugh)
