He is a little bomb in the world of padel. After footballers such as the Swede Zlatan Ibrahimovic or the world champion Zinedine Zidane, another great international star is launching into the padel business: the Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo.
In the past, we had already observed his links with padel, especially during from his recent travels in Asia. CR7 had offered an exceptional advertising campaign for padel.
This new passion also hid a desire to become more involved in this field.
The Portuguese Padel Federation confirmed this in a statement:
Official press release – City of Padel (Cidade do Padel:
“The Portuguese Padel Federation is pleased to have reached an agreement with the promoters of the project selected for the partnership aimed at building and developing the “City of Padel” (Cidade do Padel). This consortium is made up of Lusofinança Lda, whose main shareholder is Filipe de Botton, and CR7 SA, a company whose majority of capital is owned by Cristiano Ronaldo.
This project represents the largest infrastructure ever dedicated to padel in Portugal. The complex, requiring an investment exceeding five million euros, is expected to be completed in the first half of 2025.
The Portuguese Padel Federation would like to acknowledge the innovation and vision of the project selected by our jury. It is part of a resolutely modern approach, with a strong commitment to sustainability and a community spirit in harmony with the values of padel. In addition, the planned facilities integrate magnificently with the natural setting of the site.
We would like to express our gratitude for the determination, involvement and enthusiasm of the people behind this project. It is with great pride that we collaborate with one of the most renowned entrepreneurs in Portugal, associated with a global sports icon. This marks a decisive step for the influence of padel, a sport that is booming in our country.
We are convinced that the “City of Padel”, thanks to the collaboration of renowned partners such as Lusofinança and CR7 SA, will open a new and brilliant chapter for Portuguese padel. We look forward to the future phases of this ambitious initiative.”
