It is both a mini and a huge revolution that has taken place at the federal headquarters of Italian tennis. During the press conference held in Florence on the occasion of the ATP 250 tennis tournament that the Tuscan capital is hosting from October 10 to 16, a name change for the “federal tennis body” was announced!

Already in the pipes for many weeks, even many months, the news has now been officially announced and dated.

The Italian Tennis Federation, known by the acronym FIT, will officially change its name to become the Italian Tennis Federation and padel from this Sunday, October 16 (just before the final of the ATP tournament in Florence), and the acronym will now be FITP.

This goes beyond a simple name change. Indeed, it is a real opening towards the padel, a growing and already well-established phenomenon in Italy (a subject we had already mentioned through this article notably). The sport was already under the tutelage of the Tennis Federation before, but it is clear that with this decision we are moving towards an increasingly important role in the federal authorities for the padel ; and above all, this announcement can be seen as a demonstration of the power now enjoyed by the padel, whether on the media, sports or popular scene.

A name change that could encourage other countries to follow the Italian example?

Passionate about football, I discovered the padel in 2019. Since then, it's been crazy love with this sport to the point of abandoning my favorite sport.
