The competition is gradually resuming in the padel. But among the girls, especially among the best of them, we will have to wait a little longer to resume the path of elite tournaments. Mélissa Martin, member of the French team of padel, returned to his news, but also wished to share with us his opinion on the padel female.

In France, you will resume the competition soon?

For now no because we are not lucky to have P1000 girls tournaments. And there is little P500 in ladies also in our area. So, we have to wait. Some would be ready to cut their hair to make the men's tournaments!

The last P1000 for girls was during the Master My Padel Tour in Beausoleil last December. So it will soon be 3 months without p1000 women. Fortunately, we have just learned of the confirmation of the Beausoleil p1000 on the weekend of March 9/10. Otherwise we would have had to wait for the P2000s of FFT Padel Tour whose schedule is still awaited.

Among girls, we are quite scandalized by the difference in treatment that there may be between ladies and gentlemen. I can understand that it is not obvious to anyone. But, that's not how we're going to develop the padel female.

We have to compare with the gentlemen, even if it does not please me to do it. The gentlemen have monthly and even almost weekly P1000. We fight with girls to find a competition. So we should find a happy medium ...

Women in men's tournaments, for when?

It's a good question ! I think it would be very good for the best French players to be able to rub shoulders with the men in tournaments. First, because in general, it would be very well received. If they don't want it, they don't want to do gentlemen tournaments. But I think in the interest of the development of padel feminine that that would be a good thing. We all miss big games. We usually always play against the same players. Suddenly, it can demotivate a few girls, to travel across France to play against a girl who lives a few km from home.

I know you sometimes talk about it Padel Magazine... By force, maybe we will be heard ... But it's a shame to see that obvious things take so much time to see the day to the detriment of girls.

When are the girls at the gentlemen's?

Your evolution in the padel is fast… Soon a WPT Master?

Oula! I'm afraid it will take a long time ... But who knows? We must not put limits.

My rise in the padel is recent and very motivating.

Last year was my first big season in the padel on the French circuit. This year will be my first season in Spain. Currently, I am in preseason mode. Since in France, we are waiting for the ladies circuit to get organized, we have to train well. And that's what I do by training alone, with Lorenz, my boyfriend. I do 5 physical sessions per week to be at the level because I have a lot of work in this area.

I follow a program that Xan Tafernaberry, Léa Godallier's friend kindly prepared for me and that I would like to thank! So indeed when you are not yet in the competition and you are preparing alone and without a coach, this period without a tournament can seem endless! I can't wait for the season to resume!

And precisely, this year with whom will you play?

My partner for this year is Léa Godallier. She lives in Bordeaux and trains with Jorge De Benito. I've been there once to train us both and I'll try to go once a month so we can both practice! It is very important to set things up as a team.

As far as I am concerned, my project for Spain is taking shape because I managed to raise the necessary funds to go live and train in Madrid. I am so excited and impatient. So I intend to play as many WPT tournaments as possible, some with Leah and others with Spanish players.

I plan a departure for the month of April, a departure later than expected, but the Spanish adventure will finally begin.

On the spot, how are you going to work?

I'm going to train in a structure that I know with a coach that I really appreciate, Ramiro Choya, coach of Bastien Blanqué and Paquito and Lebron. I already know some players there. I will not be lost.

I know that we will not have to expect exceptional results for this first year in Spain. The level is very important. But when seeing the results of Laura Clergue and Alix Collombon in Spain, that motivates for the future.

With Léa, we have ambitions. And we say to ourselves that there may be a way to go and look for something in Spain as in France. We would like to go and tease the French champions of padel in title in 2019.

We will give ourselves thoroughly and we will see where it takes us.
