Fourth in the Race of World Padel Tour thanks to great performances with the elimination of several seeds and a final at the Open 500 de Reus, the pair Pincho/Diestro made an excellent start to the season. With the pair Lebron and Galan, the two players from Extremadura form the oldest duos on the circuit. In an interview with our colleagues from Marca, they confide in the “baile de parejas” among gentlemen.

Separations are linked like dominoes

Spike "The changes multiply as soon as there is a rupture in the duo."

Right handed "The Paquito-Tello association started it all, there was a domino effect. I was surprised by the change of Alex and Momo, I didn't expect it, but I think it was something that was going to happen and it kind of made sense."

Spike "It has become natural and normal, even more without rules, which I think will never exist. Sf you have two bad games and one of the best players calls you, you split up and that's it. I think if you get along well with one partner, you have a little edge over others, that's my opinion.”

Right handed "The problem is in the normalization of changing partners. The ranking reflects your position or status. THE padel remains an individual sport that is played in pairs. It is true that it is often short-term and that after two tournaments, with an absolute disaster, there are separations... It is normal to find a player who suits us. You have to give it time, and not less than three or four months. For example, in the first five tournaments, we didn't win a single set and I remember sitting down with Mariano and saying, “We're not in front or behind. We said to ourselves that we had to give ourselves a few more tournaments, analyze and above all work."

The secrets of a good association

Fernandez Cano Diestro WPT Cascais Open 2022

Spike "It is fundamental to get along well with your partner. It can work if we get along less well, but I think for tours and long periods of tournaments it is very difficult. In Chile, we reached the semi-finals and, to be realistic, we were very happy. But the key are the days when you're not very happy and more depressed. Having someone to share these moments with and have a quiet chat with helps us a lot. At the end of the day, you live with someone for three weeks, you see them every day, and if you don't get along, it's a lot more difficult."

Right handed "We've been playing together for a long time (and we've known each other longer). We know more or less when the other needs space. We always have lunch, sleep and dinner with this person, but each of us usually has our own life. For example, I'm more of a sleeper and Pincho an early riser. Everyone must find time for themselves. The most important thing is to be consistent and leave room for the other, who has their own habits.".

Right handed "The important thing is to know how to adapt, whether with the conditions or with your partner.".
