Fred Richeme, Head of French Padel Shop Pau, returns to the ranking system and the scale of levels set up by Régis Monnerie of PadelXP.

While basing himself on the basic table, Fred offers another vision: tennis-style classification.

A classification similar to that found in tennis

“I took care to modify the basic nomenclature of our filing system, while maintaining its fundamental structure. Contrary to traditional notation system seen with Régis Monnerie from PadelXP which ranks from 1 to 10, I prefer to rely on an approach more familiar to our sports community, similar to that of tennis, such as classification into Unranked, 5ᵉ series, 4ᵉ series, and so on. This model is also used in pelota.

I find that this way of classifying is much more rewarding. Indeed, in the current ranking system, ranks 1, 2 and 3 are of little significance, while 80% of players are found between ranks 4, 5 and 6. This amounts, in a way, to say 32 of our players that they are simply 'average', which is far from ideal. We could probably benefit from the expertise of a sports psychologist to put in place a more positive valuation system.

Also, I think it's important to use terms specific to the padel. So even if some players don't immediately understand, they will be encouraged to make an effort to research and train. It's a great way to get our community more involved in the sport they love.”
