Clearly, this Qatar Major is full of surprises! After the release of male number 1 Lebron and Galan, it's the turn of the female numbers 2, Delfi Brea et Bea Gonzalez, to take the exit door after a completely crazy match on the central track.

This meeting lasted more than 2 hours and will have offered us some great twists and turns. In the end, these are indeed Alejandra Salazar et Tamara Icardo which have imposed themselves: 2/6 7/5 6/1.

A one-sided first set

No one – not even me – would have paid much for Salazar and Icardo, given the very solid first set what Delfi and Bea did. On the track, Tamara and Alejandra were completely dominated by Bea Gonzalez's dazzling game…and came up against a wall: Delfi Brea.

The Superpibas entered the court full of confidence and they took the break in the first game of the match. This is to say ambitions of the young pair in this match.

Tamara Icardo got annoyed many times, stunned by the smashs Bea's superpowers. In the end, it made 6/2 on the scoreboard and we wondered what the response of the 5th seed could be in the second act…

A station wagon rain

The second set got off to a flying start... but this time, in favor of the Icardo/Salazar pair. We all know this moment of relaxation that you can have after winning the first set. This is what happened to Delfi and Bea who lost their service… and were quickly led away 3/0 in this second act.

Delfi and Bea were nevertheless well guided by their coach, Jorge Martinez, who tried to give them the keys to get out of this turmoil. THE Superpibas managed to get back on track… before losing their serve again!

This was the whole aspect of this second set. In total, 7 breaks were made, 3 for Brea/Gonzalez, who chased the score all the way, and 4 for Icardo/Salazar who took his head out of the water to get back into the match: 7/5.

Alejandra Salazar

The collapse of Superpibas

What we must remember from this last set is that Tamara Icardo and Alejandra Salazar knew how to seize their chance. The game was largely oriented towards the right diagonal where, obviously, the former number 1 took the lead over Delfina Brea.

For her part, Tamara Icardo managed to put many more intentions in her game. She took up a lot more space at the net and broke through the Brea/Gonzalez defense on numerous occasions, passing through the “divorce zone".

A significant fact: Bea Gonzalez only missed one bajada in this game. Only one. This fault offered the double-break to the outsiders in the third set.

Behind, Ale Salazar and Tamara Icardo continued to push. The ramparts have given way on the side of Superpibas, who suffered a 6/1 in the third round. Needless to say, no one could have expected it after the quality of their play in the first set.

It is therefore a clear victory for Alejandra and Tamara… and a huge disappointment for the finalists from Riyadh. The emotion of Bea Gonzalez at the end of the match only confirms these words.

So we expect Tamara Icardo and Ale Salazar tomorrow on the track. They will find the pair Gemma Triay / Claudia Fernandez (victorious over Sainz / Llaguno 6/1 6/3), in a match marked by a reunion... But for now, Ale Salazar and Tamara Icardo will be able to enjoy their victory.

Gwenaelle Souyri

It was his brother who one day told him to accompany him on a track. padel, since then, Gwenaëlle has never left the court. Except when it comes to going to watch the broadcast of Padel Magazine, World Padel Tour… or Premier Padel…or the French Championships. In short, she is a fan of this sport.
