This weekend were held in the Occitan capital the French Championships of Padel 2022.

For this great event, the cream of the padel French was gathered in Toulouse Padel Club. The opportunity for Robin Haziza, captain of the French women's team to come and see the state of form of his players but also of potential future new recruits.

At the microphone Padel Magazine, he looks back on this competition and realizes his assessment.

“Proud of my selection”

“The French Championship is a special competition on the French circuit because there is a certain emotion there, but also a more combative spirit on the ground, which is less found during other tournaments. We saw some very nice things.”

“For the first time in history, the French Championships take place after the selections for the World Cup. The FIP forced us to return our copies for the beginning of October. It's not easy to give a list before the French Championships when you know the importance of this tournament. Obviously there would have been different reflections, there are different states of form. Nevertheless, selection of players was made upstream after an internship in Barcelona which was rich in lessons. Note also that there was a whole season too with P2000, APT, WPT or even FIP tournaments. All this I also take into consideration.”

"I am very proud of my selection and we will give the maximum to Dubai.”

“Looking for combinations, complicity”

“Every time I move around and watch the live matches, I reflect and beyond the player that I take or not, I think with the notion of “team” by observing her evolution in her level of play. or his complicity with this or that player.

We are not leaving with a 1, 2 or 3 team. We have Alix and Léa who are clearly above and they still have it proven in the final. But to be able to fulfill our objective of being third or fourth, we know that with a single strong team we will not be able to achieve it. We have to go for combinations, complicity and maybe in Dubai we will see girls who have never played together but I have seen things that could surely work out.

We have a fairly homogeneous selection because we have players on the right who can switch to the left. I am thinking of Léa in particular. We will have to take care of a few heads too, I am thinking of Élodie Invernon and Charlotte Soubrié, who are very disappointed to have lost in the quarter-finals. Same observation for Amélie Detrivière and Mélissa Martin who lost in the semi-finals after an average match on their part and a good performance by Laura and Fiona. “

"I didn't warn the girls to tell them to be ready in case something happened. We've never done it, maybe it should. Nevertheless I think that if by misfortune something happened to a player, the called substitute would be happy to come”.

Laura Clergue, the great absentee from these Worlds of padel 2022

“I assume my choices”

Asked about the absence of Laura Clergue, who, it should be remembered, succeeded in her competition alongside her partner Fiona Ligi, Robin Haziza returns to the non-selection of Aixoise.

“First of all, I congratulate Laura for coming to the French Championships with this revengeful spirit, to prove to me that I was wrong. Laura did it very well, now it's a global decision. There is a reflection that has been made over the whole year. You said it well, they lost twice against Amélie and Mélissa so they are 0/2 against them. Moreover, without wanting to justify myself, I include Léa who is practically a left-wing player because she does it with Alix but also on the WPT (Editor's note: Léa Godallier plays on the right on the WPT). She is undefeated in the France team with her French partner. There is also a liability with Charlotte Soubrié, who has always played on the left from the start, although for a few months she has moved to the right.

“Of course if the selection was made tonight, I would have had a headache but I assume my choices and warmly congratulate Laura. She had an exemplary attitude and played very well. However, I would have liked these parts to be released a little earlier in the year. Maybe it would have been different. Now I say it again, I assume my choices and trust the players I have chosen. And I also trust Laura to have been stung and to come back even stronger.”
