In its report, the firm Deloitte Monitor presents an analysis of the ecosystem of the padel with in particular comparisons between the economy of the padel and those of other sports, including tennis.

Therefore, at the equipment level, we notice that the padel weighs for 500 million euros against 6 million for tennis. This difference can be explained by several reasons: the first is the youth of the padel compared to tennis; then, it is also the fact that the padel is only developed in Europe, whereas tennis is an already globalized sport whose revenues come from different regions of the globe; finally, today, there are 25M players of padel against 90M tennis players, which represents a much larger base of potential buyers of all kinds.

However, the equipment market padel could get closer to the tennis market in Europe (€1,840 million). To do this, the padel attracts more players and above all that it succeeds in increasing the average expenditure per player, which is currently €20. By way of comparison, in tennis, it amounts to 72€.

The economy of padel against other sports

But where the padel is still too far behind, it is at the level of the professional segment. While tennis, motor sports, basketball and even football manage to generate a lot of income, especially for their athletes, the padel still struggling.

This delay is clearly due to its still too limited audience. For a similar number of tournaments organized, tennis attracts 1 billion spectators against only 30 million for the padel in 2022. You will understand, the difference is also reflected in the prize-money. Nevertheless, according to Monitor Deloitte, the growing popularity and the emergence of new platforms broadcasting the competitions should help the development of this segment in the near future.
