The Nevera is a term padelistic designating the setting in the fridge, when only one of the two players of a team is targeted to play all the balls, the other cools down, like Ale Galan in Marbella. It is a tactic used when facing a pair where one of the two players seems weaker than his partner.

Kill two birds with one stone

The Nevera achieves two objectives:

  • At first, have all the balls played by the weaker player to facilitate the task in the exchange. By playing two against one correctly, the opponent will wear out more quickly, and risk chaining faults without being able to finish the points.
  • At the same time, the other player gradually gets out of his rhythm. He gets frustrated and risks trying risky shots on the few balls he will have to play. Even better, by attacking him from time to time, he risks getting annoyed and frustrated since he will only have difficult shots to play.

Beware, this tactic can be daunting provided both members work together to install it. In addition, you have to remain lucid so as not to be stubborn about tactics when you have complicated balls to play.

The effectiveness of this game plan is based on the quality of your shots on the weak player: there is no point in sending soft balls just on the pretext that you don't want to see the other hit. You have to play according to the opponent's position, their main weaknesses and the options available to you on the balls you receive.

How to get out of the fridge?

In case you are the target of this sneaky scheme, you have possibilities to get out of it. Already, supporting your partner cornered by opponents is good for morale and therefore for the legs, because he needs them to hold on.

Then, you have to realize what you can do when you don't hit a single ball: move your legs. Take up space on the court, quickly stick the net whenever you can, put pressure on opponents when they have a complicated ball to play. This will also help you stay in the match in terms of intensity.

Finally, just as it takes two people to put someone in the fridge, it also takes two people to get out of it. Tell your partner to insist on the player in front of him along the line to force him to start again in your diagonal. At the same time, your partner can storm the net to punish any mistakes made by your opponents.

In any case, we wish you good luck whatever your role, because it's a tactic that puts everyone's mind to the test!
