The last theme addressed by Julien Bondia during the live tutorial was smash. Technical, tactical, what did he say? We summarize you.

You were more than 4000 people to have taken a look at the tutorial proposed by Julien Bondia. A figure that shows us that you are always more passionate about the yellow ball and the technique of padel. Themes that you suggest and that we are happy to discuss. On Saturday we talked about the smash. What did he say?

First of all, we talked about smash for a right-hander positioned on the left on the track or for a left-handed right on the track. These are usually the people who have the most options and options with the spike. The smashes at padel are not not automatically powerful, they are above all formidable weapons in the preparation of points.

Before talking about “technique” proper, it is interesting to understand some basic elements.

  • Depending on the curve of your opponents' ball, you may or may not smash. When a ball comes in a bell, go for it, if not, make a bandeja or simply put the ball back into play to avoid the error.
  • The taking of pala. Preference for the continental grip or hammer which you can then modify; by making the motorcycle acceleration gesture you will give more effects to the ball, on the contrary if you decelerate, you will hit more flat therefore power.
  • The height of the socket. The higher you grab your pala, the more control you'll have, the lower your speed and boost. Please note, this advice is more for experienced players.
  • The importance of the first step. If your first step is forward, you can strike hard, violently, on the contrary if your first step is backwards, give more effects.
  • The places of placement and the orientation of your shots. For guaranteed smashes, choose the correct orientation of your ball. You are close to the grid, choose the grid in your diagonal. You are in the middle of the service area, opt for the side window slowly or the bottom window. Finally if you are in the center of the field, choose either a violent smash in the center, or a smash in the slow center which will make 2 rebounds before touching the bottom glass, or for a par 3.

The smash technique

  • It all starts with a resumption of support, this little jump when our opponents touch the ball.
  • The first step, forward or backward.
  • Make the large opening of the 2 arms going through the bottom to imitate the wings of a bird.
  • The non-dominant hand points the ball
  • The dominant arm must have 2 speeds. Slow when raising the arm, then fast when lowering the arm behind the back and then hitting the ball.
  • The feet must join once the placement is completed. Either the rear foot joins the front foot, or the reverse.
  • Create an imbalance. To end up with feet together, on the point, legs bent, causes an imbalance which will allow a better extension.
  • Hit the ball as high as possible to increase the possibility of angles.
  • Always keep your eye on the ball, even and especially at the time of impact.
  • End of gesture with the arm that ends on the side of the non-dominant arm will bring more power. An arm that ends on the side of the dominant arm will promote more effects (not easy to achieve).
  • For more experienced players, more effects can be added by projecting the side of the dominant side up and up.
  • For the more adventurous, the jumped smash has its own technique. Call taking in full stroke with the foot on the non-dominant side, short preparation, short and dry strike from top to bottom with a wrist shot like a volleyball player.

Do not hesitate to ask questions. See you very soon for a next tutorial !!!
