Have you ever spent a winter holiday under the sun and warmth of Andalusia?

Do not hesitate any longer, put away your skis and take out your snowshoes, your shorts and your t-shirts!

Yes the padel was born in Acapulco (Mexico) at Enrique Corcuera, but it was in Marbella that it landed in Europe and developed there to become the sport it is today.

Marbella, the pioneer city in the padel

The export of the discipline to Spain is due to Corcuera who, during the summer, invites his friends to play with him on his court at Las Brisas in Mexico. It was his friend Prince Alfonso of Hohenlohe-Langenburg, property developer and founder of the Marbella Club, who was instrumental in this expansion.

He was responsible for bringing it to Spain and introducing it to the Costa del Sol in 1974, building two tracks in his hotel-club, the first to be built in Spain.

Between 1980 and 1990, the courts of the Marbella Club hosted the famous "Pro-Am" tournaments, sponsored by the "Smith & Smith" stores of Las Arenas, owned by the man who would become the first president of the International Federation of Padel (1991), Julio Alegría Artiach, one of the most important people in the history of this sport and who established international regulations on the padel.

The personalities attracted by this sport

The key moment in the evolution of padel in Spain, it was at the beginning of the 90s, when personalities from the political, economic and journalistic worlds became passionate about this new fashionable sport, still in Marbella.
