Meeting with Mickaël Garcia, an amateur player who gives us his opinion on the new regulations which prevents Top 500 players from participating in P250.

His debut in the padel

“Three years ago, I discovered the padel a little by chance. A friend had access to land at a reduced rate through his work, and we went for it without really knowing the rules. At the beginning, we played as if it were tennis, without really understanding the subtleties of the game. padel. But those days seem distant to me now. Over the past year, I have taken a decisive turn by seriously engaging in competition. I started playing “really” padel, learning the techniques, the specific strategies and totally immersing myself in the spirit of this sport.”

A healthier atmosphere

“I can only applaud this decision to prevent players ranked in the top 500 from participating in small tournaments. Before, it was common to find yourself facing players well above our category (Top 200/500) in P250 or even P100 tournaments. It was discouraging, almost unfair, for players like me who work hard to improve and hope to win tournaments.

This new rule makes P250 competitions much more accessible and fair. The Top 500 players have nothing to do in these tournaments where they no longer earn points, and above all, they shattered the dreams of small players who found themselves powerless against them. Now the atmosphere in these tournaments is healthier, and the competition is open to everyone who really has a chance of winning.”

The goals of this amateur player

“For this year 2024, my first goal is to reach the top 2000. Currently, I am on the verge of ranking around 2600th place, and I feel that I have the potential and the determination necessary to cross this new stage. Next, winning a P250 tournament is on my list.

Finally, I want to join a team for the Team Championships. I have always been attracted by the community aspect and team spirit of padel. Participating in team competitions would not only allow me to enjoy this great atmosphere but also to progress by playing alongside and against players of different levels.”
