It's a real bomb that has just fallen! While supposed to retire at the end of the season, Pablo Lima has actually decided to retire in a month!

Indeed, it is up to our colleagues to Trademarks that the Brazilian gave the info: he will retire at the end of the World Padel Tour Master of Madrid, scheduled for September 18-24.

Absent in Finland and Premier Padel of Paris, the former world number 1 has only one tournament left to play, so he will have a kind of jubilee in the Spanish capital, a bit like his ex-teammate Juani Mieres currently in Cordoba. Normally it is with another veteran, Agustin Gomez Silingo, that the Brazilian will play the last competition of his career.

The reason for this turnaround: back pain.

“I have been very affected by a back problem for the last 2-3 months. I couldn't play at a good level and honestly, rather than playing like that, I'd rather quit. One of the reasons that pushed me to make the decision to stop at the end of this year was that, I didn't want to play at such a low level, and now I think it's the best things to do."

It was during the Roma Major that Pablo felt it was necessary to bring forward his retirement date:

“I was already in a lot of pain (…) and my mind was more focused on different projects rather than the present moment.”

It's certainly not the exit that Lima had dreamed of, but at least the Brazilian will be able to focus more on projects that he is more passionate about, and who knows, after a break of several weeks, he may find some its former glory during the Madrid Masters…
